How would I reduce the temperature in my GS300?
My GS300 the needle of the temperature is always maintained just past the second line on the gauge cluster after reaching the maximum temperature. I would always change the coolant with the original Lexus coolant and is always just past the second line on the gauge. Also, the thermostat is original Lexus. As I can make the engine work cooler?? I understood that if the engine works at a colder temperature I save more in gas and at the same time the engine work more comfortable??
I also, notice that the reserve coolant cap tank always has some mark of coolant, coolant residue. I clean the cap or lid and in a week later the coolant residue is there again. The residue from the coolant , with the wind of the electric fans push the coolant through the belt cover and all that area. How can I avoid this issue too?? Since the dealer does not see the cap of the coolant reserve tank separately??
Any help or info. Would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

The engine works as it should at the factory operating temperature, I wouldn't mess with it. If you force it to be cooler, the computer will use a little more fuel trying to constantly get the engine to operating temperature. If you're trying to save gas, you bought the wrong car.
Is the coolant residue on the inside of the cap or the outside? I wouldn't worry about it on the inside, but if it's on the outside in a large quantity it sounds like you're leaking coolant from somewhere.

agree, i'm confused over the OP's description. I can't tell if he's saying the car is working normally and he's trying to tweak/mod something, or the car is working abnormally and he's trying to repair it.
Is the temp guage is not pointing horizontal during normal operation but instead is pointing upwards towards the hot marks?
If it is pointed up, that is not normal; perhaps your thermometer needs changing, or your fans for your radiator need checking if they are not turning on.

Unfortunately true engine temperature can not be determined by the in dash gauge.
It is a dummy gauge that dampens the actual temp and limits needle fluctuations. When it goes up in the red it is too late.
True engine temperature can be had by using the OBDII port via a tool like ScanGauge, UltraGauge, real time scan tool or even a Bluetooth OBDII app from your smartphone.
On both my GS's the gauge reads the same at 160* to 195*. This I have found typical on all Toyota and Lexus engine temperature gauges.

Who told you this?? You are dead wrong. It's actually the opposite. Colder temperature would require more gas usage and it does not make the engine "more comfortable". Whatever that means....
If the engine stays in open loop for too long, you will use way more gas and run the risk of ruining your engine.
Leave your car alone and hand it over to a professional who won't damage anything.

Guys, Thank you for the info. I just try to know if that information that I hear from some $%^&* guyssss was true. That's why I ask here, because I know all you guys know more about of this. My car working fine and like I said before, just past the second line on the gauge cluster after reaching the maximum temperature. Also, giving me 360 to 380 with full tank. Again, Thanks for all the info aand I not need to do somethink about it.
About the reserve coolant cap tank, just do that sometime is not all the time. I just check every 2 week now and if there is any residue I clean it and also, I check the level on the reseve coolant tank that if need it I add more but not pass the level mark.
Thanks again guys
