Is that the only code? Your cat could be plugged and I dont think it has to smell like anything for you to have a need to replace your cat

code cleared today in the morning
could it be because of weather? today is over 40°
so it couldnt be an exhaust leak
o2 sensor or because it was so cold cats didnt get into working tem

Just change out all 4 o2 sensors bro.. It will continue doing that if sensors are defective... The temperature probably doesn't let them work effectively. But they will return. I'm currently going thru the same problem. Just try to get all 4 o2 sensors and if you can, new exhaust gaskets from sewellparts..

could be the precat but likely the o2 sensors. see if the code comes back and start with that. if you havent replaced o2's in the past, its probably that.

change them all and then if that doesn't fix it, just take a long screw driver and hollow out of the cat into a straight pipe.

When you see that (P0420/P0430) code 99% of the time its the cat. I see it a dozen times every week at the dealer. Its probably not the O2 sensors if it was the o2 sensors going bad you would also get a performance range code or o2 heater circuit code.

You can hear an air leak my bro. Makes the car sound like a mini pickup truck.. Smh. I was just dealing with that. Had my new cats + all gaskets + all 4 o2 sensors installed this past Thursday. I had a TERRIBLE air leak. Anyhow, car feels really responsive now, no unusual noises etc.. had a minor setback tho. My B1 S1 o2 sensor came out defective. Not reading at all on machine. Going to take it back tomorrow to my guy to get it replaced with ANOTHER o2 sensor I ran and got from my local Advance Auto. I will return the defective one to the seller on eBay.

My best advice bro is like this. If your tryna avoid spending big bucks on a pair of cats, as a good first step, go on www.sewellparts.com and order all gaskets to the cats and screws + bolts before & after the cat. Should come out under $50 if you use your CL account for discounts. Then buy all 4 Denso o2 sensors either off eBay, Amazon, Rock Auto, etc.. Should be able to get all 4 under $250 comfortably. Once you've replaced all that, there shouldn't be any air leaks so you shouldn't feel the car "sluggish".. and if the light doesn't return, might be good to assume your cats are good bro. However, if after all that the CEL returns, you most likely need new cats.. let us know how everything turns out! Good luck, and stay positively optimistic bro!!!

Could this code possibly be PO125 my bro?? After I replaced my cats, gaskets, and all 4 o2 sensors, that code came up. However when I checked back at the shop, my mechanic said that one sensor is NOT reading at all. Said it's defective and that once I replace it, CEL shouldn't come back. Have you ran across a situation like this bro? Considering my circumstances, do you think that might be my definite problem? I've never had any other codes other then the cats at first. And now this. Please, share your opinion bro! Thank you!
