My new (used) 98 GS300
#62
Well after trying to sell my GS for a while, decided to keep it. Reasons being that I was not getting any reasonable offers for it. Two, the time factor I had, I needed to move so with me she goes.
Well before I do any kind of traveling with this car I need to do some maintenance.
Planned Maintenance: (Timing belt service will have my mechanic do for time reasons and to catch any other issues I would have missed)
Most parts were ordered from Rock Auto. The VVT-I pulley rebuild kit bought from Drift Motion, and oil fluids and other basic stuff from Walmart
1) Timing belt/water pump, etc.
2) Valve Cover Gaskets, Cam-Shaft Seals
3) VVT-i pulley rebuild
4) Oil change (by me)
5) Strut and Strut Mounts (by me)
6) UCA (by me)
7) Alignment (tires plus)
8) New Tires (tires plus)
Other things done:
*replace fog light bulbs (one blew, but replaced both)
*New wiper blades
*Restore headlights back to clear (held up pretty good for just a wet sand and polish back in 2013)

Unplanned Repairs: Things caught by my mechanic that needed to be addressed.
*Valve Covers replaced (both were starting to rotten out (never seen that before)
*Transmission pan and shift seals leaking(dropped pan, drained fluid, replaced seals, resealed pan with Toyota red gasket sealant, refilled fluid)
*Tensioner Pulley replaced(the bolt that holds the pulley was busted so it would just spin and not rotate the pulley in order to get the belt off, and you see the pulley was digging into the metal)
Good thing my mechanic had another 2jzge engine laying around with good valve covers and a tensioner pulley that he sold me. Could not imagine the price new from a dealer.

While I was doing some cleaning on the inside (vacuum, armor-all etc) my wife always said the air coming out the rear vent smelled funny. So I investigated thinking maybe its just dust and a simple cleaning would fix. Took the vent out and this is what I found
