Took apart console to fix SHIFTER and now my KEY won't come out of ignition!

I don't get how dirty fluid is supposed to cause this. The shifter pulls a lever on the transmission which simply moves a slide into different positions on the valve body. There's no mechanical connection between the gears and the linkage or the shifter. There is a gear position switch on the side of the transmission but, if he didn't mess with it, I don't see how that could cause this.

If It worked before he messed with it. That right there tells you he probably messed it up.

I pressed the the button to see where it overrides it in the shifter and stuck something their so its always unlocked, and I agree with the post above me.
