Default Noobie question about replacing stock stereo

I would like to replace my original gs 300 stock stereo (non navigation).
My understanding is that these cars also have an amp installed. Is this 2 different pieces of equipment?
I would like to put a nice double din pioneer touch screen in it's place. Do I need to, or should I also replace the amp? Or would a newer stereo be sufficient power?
I'll be replacing the speakers eventually but I'm sticking with the originals for now. Thanks!

Yes the amp is seperate from the radio. If your going to use the stock speakers u don't need an amp. Upgrade speakers then u need one.

Factory amp is located behind the glove box or in the trunk. Once you change your head unit, your factory amp and sub will no longer work.
