this thread got me in reinterested back into making my steering wheel controls to work with my aftermarket headunit.
I kinda 1/2 attempted to make that circuit board interface from a thread i read a while back but dropped the idea after realizing how much i suck at electronics.
but a quick trip to my audio shop and about 20mins of searching yielded this!

This link should work: http://axxessinterfaces.com/index.ph...roducts_id=212
Also, what device are you using on your wheel? My Platinum 20000GS has nothing of the sort, so I would need to pick up a used EBAY thing, then use this to have controls ya?

I have a 2002 hu in my 1999 gs 400 and works great. I would like to try this setup just not sure what wires on the back of the hu this would be hooked up to. Anyone know the wiring layout on the back of the oem navi unit? Thanks..

after a couple of hickups, finally got this installed. the install is relatively easy, it comes with the wiring oem plug and requires just power constant and ground. the other end goes into the aftermarket head units "wired remote" input.
a quick program which requires it to interface with the car for 20 seconds, then 15 seconds with the aftermarket headunit, and it was done.
still some fine tuning.
but my 6 button steering wheel controls are working, vol up and vol down work as they should, mute does what it suppose to do, track up and down, and mode (switch between navi and player in my case)

Quick question, how do you connect it to the steering wheel side? Do you have to take apart the wheel or is it behind the dash?

Also pics and a description of how to would be very helpful. Thanks!

it is a plug and play interface. it uses the pre existing wiring that is located with the oe wiring harness at the back of the head unit.
no pics, forgot to take pictures, but the install literally is 10mins maximum.
