Default Weird rubbing noise from interior (Video included)

I recently got this rubbing sound noises coming from interior. It happens in either cold or hot at idle and during the drive (driving will have it less rubbing noise). I cannot figure out this one.

I took my car to shop and they wanted to look into the car which involve taking the dashboard apart to find the source. I want to ask on here before I move to anything more expensive labor.

I recently did the tranny mount replacement and will be doing the motor mounts pretty soon. As of now, the lexus been sitting on the driveway for couple of weeks. I am hoping it is the motor mounts (original mounts).

Doing the timing belt kit, front end suspension, motor mounts, and fix that little leak in exhaust next week.

Here is the video of the noise

do you have the Ac or heater on?

Check the 3 servo behind the dash. Sounds like a servo is going out.

Ac or heater on or off, it will still make this noise. It is coming from in the middle dashboard. I even can feel it by floorpan or steering wheel/transmission shifter.

I am deaf so I am good at having to feel stuff where non deaf people cant.

I also have an 01 gs430 with the same noise. I am defaintly leaning toward the servo motor, however i dont know which of the 3 it is. If you turn your heat on blast on the highest temp for roughly 30-60 second, it will temporarly make the sound vanish. from the DIY, it looks quite time consuming. Maybe find a skilled forum member to give you a hand.

It is time consuming from what i researched. I would probably replace all 3 while you are in there so you dont have to do this hassle when one of other decide to make noises again.

Default RE: weird noise from under dash

To 01GS430,
I had the exact same noise from my 2003 GS 300 and I am going into the dealer tomorrow.
I am sure it's the a/c. It finally stopped grunting as your video depicts and it is now making a strong humming or buzzing intermittent noise. The other day cold air was coming from the left and hot air through the vents on the right. It never happened before and it hasn't happened since. It has also make the coffee pot gurgling noise as well.

I am pretty sure that this is going to cost a Kings Ransom to repair, but I anticipate a long hot summer this year and I don't want to be driving around without a/c.
I will let you know what they tell me afterwards. As I am a 'woman' with no mechanical skills, I have to trust my friends at the dealership to take care of this.
On a good note, this is the first problem I have ever had with this car

Havent done any servos. My toyota sienna van have a broken a/c compressor and blows hot on coldest setting. Yet I use it more than lexus (with working a/c and noises).

I will probably order 3 servos at the same time next week or so. Right now, the a/c is working just fine. Just noises like in the video.

01GS430,

Did you ever find out where the noise came from? Just dropped mine ('03 GS300) off (had same noise, now there is a buzzing and coffee perculating noise coming from the a/c vents and Hot blows ocassionally on one side with cold air on the other)

Got my 2013 LS loaner......nice!! Makes me want to trade in the 10 y.o one now.

There were 45 cars ahead of me that had been dropped off on Wed. so they may not get to it til tomorrow depending on
how they do today. I'm pretty sure it's going to be expensive, but I look at it this way.....I've had the car 10 years and have only had to do routine maintenance, filters, oil chgs, tires, rotations, detailing, brakes, etc. So, this expense amoratized is OK.

Default Video Noise problem=A/C servo

Dealer called and yes it's a servo. I'm going to be proactive and replace both on the passenger side. Hate to give back the loaner though.
It didn't cost as much as I thought but more than I'd like to pay.

Ahh! Thank God I ran into this thread. I started having this problem a week ago. I swear I thought some animal got into the vents somehow. It just sounds like somethings scratching up the air vents inside the dash. Sunshine, do you mind telling us how much you paid PER servo or for all of them (not including labor) Thanks!
