Default Need a little help: only have valet key (and yes i searched, just a lil confused)

2001 GS300 Bought it used a couple years ago with only an aftermarket valet key (dealer said he lost the key between the day i bought it, and the few days before when i test drove the car)

Anyway I need a spare

I understand lexus has a program (if the car "qualifies") that pays for a new ECU and the customer only pays for programming and key (i also heard it comes with 2 keys )

My question is, what do i ask exactly when i call the dealership? so i dont look like an A$$

A woman in the parts dept at my local lexus dealer told me i need to contact lexus directly (which is opposite of what i read on here)

Can anyone help and clear things up for me?

Thanks in advance

I'M confused, why do you need an ECU? Just go here http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2001/2809.html make an account with your Club Lexus screen name (for fat discount) buy the key, look for the instructions on here and program it yourself.

If you do not have a master key, you cannot program additional keys. I think the changeover was the 2003 year for 2gs or something like that where they can now reprogram even without a master.

So, many Lexus dealers will go by the book and say you are stuck at this point and you will need to replace the ECU (expensive).

However, since many years have passed, people have figured out the ECU, and some will take the effort to "hack" into the ecu and flash it for much less than a replacement.
Note that it is not in their interest of a Dealer to provide this service.

Your best bet is to call around local locksmiths to find someone who knows how to reflash a Lexus ECU.
There are a few locksmiths providing the service via mail on the internet too, but you have to be ship them your ECU..

example:
http://www.a-1mobilelockandkey.com/t...questions.html

They have all the Questions/Answers there about the process

Your thing about some "program" is just goodwill. It's more if they that you are a good customer and they are doing a favor based on your past spending and purchases

You can go to your local Lexus Dealership and get a master key and get it programmed, but it's going to cost you about $450.. I too only have a Valet key.. Now my valet key is a Lexus Valet key, but that is what I was told when I wanted to go get a new Master Key. $180 for the key and $275 for programming.

If u were over in NY I would help u out, just gave one of my boys the hook up on 2 extra keys (oem) for his GS.
Dealer wanted $700 for the ecu reprogram and 2keys.
He lost all his keys.
