Default did i get a good deal?

so i just got my GS400 about a month ago and the alternator took a crap on me. had to end up paying $200 for a new one and after reading how much of a pain it is to change, i called the nearest toyota dealer( the nearest lexus one is over 50miles away) and they only charged me a flat rate of $150. dropped it off at 1 and wont get it back till tomorrow because the harness was giving the tech problems. which makes me glad i took it in instead of doing to my self. so was $150 a good deal for a dealer to install it for me?

thats a pretty good price for dealership.

all said and done, you already paid for it. even if it was too expensive all you can do is sit and get

I hate paying ANYone to do work on my car. The deal is only as good as your knowledge on cars (or rather lack thereof)

I think you got a great deal.

There comes a point when it's easier to pay a "pro" to do it then trying to attempt it yourself.

1. Having the right tools
2. Having the time (time = money right?)
3. Being able to endure the sweat/grease/etc and any problems that might arise.

You did fine

thanks yes this was one of the biggest reasons why i took it to the dealer, i just dont have anywhere to really do the work and im completely new to the car itself. and seeing how much the problems the tech had at the dealership, im glad its there problem and not mine. its taken them 6+hrs so far.

If I could r&r a 1uz alternator in my GS in 30 minutes, a Lexus tech should be able to do it in an hour with a long coffee break. Sometimes service writers will tell you what you want to hear. Techs can be working on 3 or 4 cars at the same time depending on the write-ups and work load. You car is most likely in line to get worked on. I call BS on a 6hr+ r&r.

Most of the time when the alternator stops charging all it needs is a new set of $20. brushes and an extra 5 minutes to replace them.
