Default Gs400 p1345?

Hey fellas! Last week I was driving down I-295 from work and my car jumped once and then jumped again then the car shut off. I was able to coast to the side and had to call a tow truck. Thought it was the timing belt, had my wife crank the car and all of the pulleys moved. Checked for spark and fuel, that checked good also. Got a scanner and the only code was for a P1345 VVT Sensor/Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1). Does anyone know where the location of this sensor is? The internet has no been helpful on the location. I would appreciate the help fellas!!!

Sounds like you got a failing oil control valve. There are 2 in the V8. I forgot what bank goes with what side, but the driver side is easily accessible. The passenger side one you would have to remove the throttle body to access it. They are located right in front where the VVTi sprockets are.

The one in the Brown is the oil control valve (Drivers Side). Pic borrowed from this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...-filter-2.html

I checked those and there was no sign of blockage. Before I bought the car from the previous owner he got those replaced in Dec 2011. The car cranks but doesn't start. Listed below is the dtc information. That's the only reason why I believe its the crank position sensor, but I just don't want to tear the whole motor apart trying to find it. http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/sn...5040_p1350.pdf

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
VVT sensor (VVL or VVR signal) consist of a signal plate and pickup coil.
The VVL or VVR signal plate has 1 tooth on its outer circumference and is mounted on the intake camshafts.
When the camshafts rotate, the protrusion on the signal plate and the air gap on the pickup coil change,
causing fluctuations in the magnetic field and generating an electromotive force in the pickup coil.
The actual camshaft angle is detected by the VVT sensor and it provides feedback to the ECM to

I found it. Thanks to Sewell Lexus parts the camshaft position sensor was in the middle of the valve cover close to the intake. Here are some pictures. Now order the sensor and get my gurl back on the road.

Just to clarify, the entire throttle body does not have to be removed. All you have to do is remove the pedal position sensor, which is the black piece that is held on by 3 screws.

Still not running!! In lieu of the camshaft sensor, my fuel pump died. Replaced that and now either battery or starter..fml!!! I guess this what happens when your car has 250k on it. I'll keep you posted.

With that much miles parts do fail but in the end, she will last another 200+ bro. Keep up the good work and hope well she will be back on the road.

Default Me too, this is what I did to fix it.

Good day gentlemen,

I have a 98 GS400 with 267,000 miles. My car also stumbled, died and wouldn't restart for hours so I had it towed to a friend's shop where the code 1345 was found. I bought the vvt sensor on the front of the driver's side camshaft cover and replaced it. I test drove it in all manner including wide open throttle trough 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and it drove flawlessly. On my way home on the highway 20 minutes into the drive the car did the same stumble and died and wouldn't restart. It gave the codes 1345, 1350, the car restarted after about 20 minutes so I continued home but this time I never went over 3000 rpm as I thought it must be failing when the vvti switches over at higher rpm. When I got much closer to home I floored the accelerator in 2nd gear and the car stumbled between 5k and 6k rpm and gave the same 2 codes plus misfire in cylinder 8, 3, and 5. This led me to believe the fuel pump was at fault for all of this so I tried 2nd gear again and it stumbled and stalled again between 5 and 6k rpm and wouldn't restart for about 15 minutes. while it wouldn't restart I removed the rear seat and fuel pump access cover to feel if the pump was running while I cranked the engine and it did so I was a little confused. I went to a you-pull it and got a fuel pump and camshaft position sensor located in both cylinder banks close to the fuel rails. I systematically replaced one sensor at a time and finally the fuel pump until the car stopped stumbling and buckling. turns out it was the fuel pump. The car now pulls smoothly all the way to redline in the lower 3 gears. I didn't try 4th simply because that's to fast for secondary roads. I hope this helps someone as much as I have be helped by you guys. thank you.
