What did you do to your GS today?

I went with 245 45 17 on my rims, and ride isn't a problem.
My speedo is still off (around 5-6% high), but is almost spot on with 215 60 16's. I went to the 245 45's over 235 45's just for the speedo and it gives a small extra sidewall to protect against curb rash if I got to close.
It helped speedo, but not as good as I had hoped...

I running 245/40-18 and its very balanced tire, good ride, it handles well and performs like 35 series tire without the harshness.. I use to run 245/35-19.. that's more harder and a bit rougher.. 45 series, i believe would be more cushion but you will out of spec.. the smallest 45 series you can get will be 225/45-18 which is 26" rolling diameter which .3 inch taller than 245-40-18..
I know this because I'm Planning to run 225/45-18 because i have a short rear axle ratio 3.77 rear and my rpms are close to 3K cruising 80mph on the hwy.. if I went with a taller tire it will lower my rpm's. Thats the only real purpose for going out of spec.. I would stay with stock size if you have stock rear axle because going with a taller tire with stock rear ratio with slow up your acceleration..

The stock GS tire is actually 25.7" tire which is same with running 225/55-16 on the car with 16's..
The GS400/GS430 with the upgraded wheel package has 235/45-17 which is lower 25.4.. so actually the 235/45-17 is under the spec for better acceleration..
the 245/45-17 that you're running is actually stock spec but they use a smaller tire for some reason from the factory. Its same as if your running 245-40-18. both 25.7" rolling diameters as well as 225/55-16 stock 16's..

RAM: You were right about the 16's, If I remember correctly the very first GS's with 16's came with the 215/60-16's on the car for some reason.. the spec on that is 26.2" wow thats a tall tire for stock and then later they went with the 225/55-16 which is 25.7 tire..
Edit: I just look at my manual and confirm with Tire rack.. that 215/60-16 was stock tire on the GS300, while the 225/55-16 is stock tire on GS400. I think factory put on 215/60-16 on the GS300 is because the GS300 came with 3.92 rear axle ratio.. If they ran the other sizes their hwy rpms would be real high is my guess why the different sizes...
