Stick with original stuff: Navigation DVD
Suffered some annoyance: at some locations in the NEtherlands, the navigation would go blind "can not read DVD") which is annoying when you drive a luxury executive limousine like the GS430.
Tried a lot of things, but could not update the DVD on the Lexus-website.
So I went to a dealer: he had only one 2nd GEN DVD left, and allowed me to try it, before selling it for 140 USD/130 €.... It appeared that I bought the Lexus with a non-original Copy... bugger..
Had it for 2 weeks, never failed me once... so I will buy it..

I recently bought this 2001 GS300 at just under 80k and its in great shape. No rust, garage kept, just beautiful I looked the entire car over and found 2 issues. Funky brake noise and burning oil smell.
I set out to replace the rear brake pads and rotors due to an annoying vibration/growling in the rear (pitted rotors) and the valve cover gaskets for leaks. Brakes first.
Upon removing the wheel, discovered that someone had recently replaced said parts but didn't install all the retaining hardware for the pads, allowing them to move up too high and overlap the rotor. Wow, just wow.
Thank you Oreilly for stocking my brake hardware. Kudo's. Quick run for parts (and lunch) and back to work.
I had to replace valve cover gaskets next due to a leak getting down on the plugs and wires and a little on the exhaust manifold. Pulled air box, upper manifold section, both valve covers, and changed the plugs, wires, and coils while I was there.
I spent a lot of time cleaning up the mess. Probably as much as I did actually working on it. I found that using the giant cotton swabs that came in a gun cleaning kit worked well for the area around the spark plugs. Great for cleaning the throttle plate area too. Looks good now and no more burning oil smell.
I must say, I sure enjoy Toyota engineering. Its a pleasure to work on (most of the time) and is usually built to be repaired instead of replaced. They need to step up their wiring game a bit. Poor insulation and connectors too flimsy.
Got that done pretty quick so I polished the headlights (all 4). Had a nasty yellow looking film on them before. Replaced all the bulbs too. Didn't get to drive it last night (a little too much moonshine) but I expect the results will be pleasing.

After talking about it to IS250/350 owners, I opted to go for a 45 sidewall, because they said their ride was too harsh and the GS is heavier.

I know this because I'm Planning to run 225/45-18 because i have a short rear axle ratio 3.77 rear and my rpms are close to 3K cruising 80mph on the hwy.. if I went with a taller tire it will lower my rpm's. Thats the only real purpose for going out of spec.. I would stay with stock size if you have stock rear axle because going with a taller tire with stock rear ratio with slow up your acceleration..
