Default Transmission pan removal and ball joints questions

So my gs400 has a small leak coming from the transmission oil pan.I would like to change the fluid he this weekend so want to fix the leak while I'm there. So I called my local Lexus dealership and they told me it doesn't take a gasket there to use hi temp silicon...does that sound right??anything else I should do or look out for when completing the job???
I also ordered Megan EZ streets and I would like to start updating all my control arms bushing and ball joints here some time soon most likely not all at one,so should I start with ball joints? And what would be a good website to order them from bc Lexus wants ways to much for them..Thanks in advance guys..

Yes it uses the silicone but if you have one drop of tranny fluid between the two sides when you assemble it will leak. You can get a gasket, not as good but a lot easier to do. If you are going to use the silicone you better have both surfaces dry and clean and make sure nothing can drip unto it during assembly

Ok thanks fellas
Northstyle did you go with the Moog brand bc you've had good feedback on them or just bc of the lower price?

What's the best silicon to use? Does this apply to the oil pan as well?

Go to your local Toyota Dealer and get the FIPG, comes a tube. Best silicon to use for the trans pan.

there is two kinds of FIPG.
Orange and black, make sure you use the correct one.

the hardest part is the bolts behind the Cat brace. if you cant remove the brace you can bend it for access. Lining up the Dip stick tube is also a pain, use a long screw driver to guide you as you push it in.

Clean ALL of the existing sealant, i use a brillo pad and wash the pan in Gasoline or brake cleaner. Clean Magnets and put them back

Replace Tranny filter while your at it.

Orange

Everything with time gets used/old blah blah blah.. A filter does what it does..It filters.. Hence debris gets stuck in there..

If your gonna change the pan, might as well.. thats just me.. its like $20 or so...

New gasket, clean magnets, new filter, new fluid...AHhhhhhh SO FRESH SO CLEAN.....

Im with you on that bro I like replacing everything that should be changed to make it a 100% job well done.I jist herd thay its like a built-in metal one or something like that so I wasent sure if I could change it or not but good to know ill add that to the list of ishh I need to buy.
ALSO
..I did a search on my wifes car(04 Rx330)a few months ago and it said to drain the oil undo the line that goes to the radiator and start the car and let the oil run out untill it shows clear fluid and then put everything back together and top off the fluid.Does that sound like what I should do being that ima have to drop the pan to fix the leak??

Just drain it via Plug, once its all out, most of it atleast, just take the pan down. it will get messy no matter what, just take your time and tarp the work area.

after you refill, run the fluid for about a week and drain and refill..

I buy all my replacement parts for my 2gs at http://www.sewelllexus.com/

I also recommend checking your inner and outer tie rods, and caster arm bushings, as well. Not saying you have to replace them, but just check to see if they are in desperate need of repair or replacement.

Just got off the phone with Lexus and they don't carry a filter replacement for the Gs 400 so should I go with something like this and just use both gasket and filter.
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...tors&_from=R40

Or such I just clean the factory one in gas and use FIPG to seal it up

Or should I buy the kit use just the filter and still use the FIPG and not the gasket???I want whats best so a few extra buxs spent wont kill me.
