Default Lets talk Built Trans & high stall...

Whats up guys!! We're still working some issues out with the recent swap but hoping we found the fix and all will be right by the end of the week...So one thing is for sure after doing the swap is I want more power!! We made 461whp@18lbs when we were done, at some point I want 550-600whp on 93 and 650-700whp on race gas. Yeah I know I need a few other upgrades to make that power too.. So i've been wondering whats out there for built transmissions and what everyones experience is with them? The car will always be a driver, I want it daily driver reliable and still decent comfort, not like stock but not break your neck under easy acceeration either... I would like to put the car on the track from time to time also, so what type of stall would I need for a solid launch? How would that affect daily normal driving? Any idea's what type of 1/4 mile time I could see with 700whp, slicks and hard launch? Just curious what people have seen...Just looking to pick some of your guys brains and hear some experience stories.. Thanks guys!!

I can't speak on the behalf of Lexus', but I am very familiar with stalled transmissions, so I will try to offer advice. As far as a built, drop-in transmission, I've head that IPT makes pretty top-of-the-line A650E's (which is what I'm assuming you have). Here is a link so you can look at it... Not very cheap... http://www.importperformancetrans.co...sion-4347.html

As far as the torque converter goes, I cannot recommend a brand, but I am sure someone will chime in or you can ask IPT. As for stall speed that is *highly* dependent on your setup. Most turbo setups will benefit from a stall speed higher 3600. Get a dyno sheet of the car and that will give you your best idea of where to start. I've seen high-horsepower 2JZ using 4600 stalls mated to TH transmissions. Again, it really depends on when your turbo is spooling and when you start to see your power come in.

On my last note, if you want a cheaper, but still very strong option, a TH (TurboHydramatic) 350 is very viable. They can be built to be completely bulletproof but they cannot be electronically controlled, so you will probably have to run a FMVB or something of the similar. That and it only has 3 gears...

If you have any specific questions, I will try my best to answer them until someone with some Lexus experience chimes in.

^ So the trans is a bit of an odd duck. The Aristo was in later years post the Supra. Therefore it received some "updates" that the Supra TT trans did not, specifically a 7 solenoid valve body. As such, some shops have not dealt with that particular valve body. I did talk to ATF (who makes the sprag everyone runs for the TT) and they have built them before. I can't recall if Titan has built one or not, or if they just outsource to ATF (highly possible). You'll want the sprag from them, the people at ATF were quick to answer the phone and knowledgable, I'd go with them (if I wasn't doing it myself).

You should be able to run performance clutch/steels for a TT in there.

As for the convertor, everyone seems to point to the Titan (which is a FTI but you have to buy it through Titan). There's a decent amount of testing and info on Supraforums about it. In short, other high stall convertors just blow the power by above a certain level, the Titan does fine and dandy and will make use of high power levels.

And as kdick91 points out, th400 is an option. Adamgamez switched and I believe is quite happy and glad he did in the end.

Remember the GS is a heavy car to move. With good slicks and 700hp, you will probably be somewhere in the low-mid 11's. I've never put a proper set of slicks on my car so the best times I've ever run were in the low 12's on street tires.
