Default Taillight bulb to led need resistor?

I'm looking at changing my bulbs from stock to LED In the stock housings. Do I need to add resistors? I just don't like the look of the LED lights at night. I'd love a set of JP's with the clear turn signal but pricey..... This is a compromise cuz I got another project going too..

Rear turn signals 7440 becoming LED
Outer tailights 7443 becoming LED
Inner tailights 2825 to LED

u dont need resistors, a lot of the times they are HOTTTTTTTTT and burn through the carpet if your not careful where you mount them.

does absolutely nothing. many members run it without resistors and just leave the light on their odo, or others (and people like myself) who have OCD, tear apart the odo to take out the bulb.

Use canbus safe bulbs, they will have resistors built in to allow the car to "see" the bulbs.

Resistors installed correctly shouldn't get smoking hot.

Do it right the first time so you don't have to deal with bulb out errors and hyper blinking lights.

Exactly....

I am in electronics, and that is for sure what concerns me, if they are getting hot the resistor is dropping too much current and needs to be a different value and higher wattage. Last thing anyone need is melted wiring harnesses.... You need at LEAST a 5 watt resistor if it is low resistance, if not more. I would probably go much higher.

I would like to know where the module is that senses the current, that is where the mod needs to be. But the resistor should be in the 10k range I would think, sounds like it is pretty low. Like someone put in a resistor about the same value as a light bulb resistance.

What bulbs you all getting? Maybe I can find one and experiment and come up with a better way that isn't likely to burn something or someone.

Im looking at the canbus ones now, they have built in resistors. Found em here:

http://www.globalpowerleds.com/led-240.html

But haven't ordered yet, still looking.. Trying to find them with RED LED's in the US... Superbright and V-led, don't carry them in the canbus versions, and my OCD won't allow me to live with the warning light so I'd join the club of tearing apart the dash to... Which I'd rather not do...

So still searching, anybody else already done this and can give us what and where you got yours?
