Why the heck did Lexus make the gs300?

You have to remember the world market is geared more for lower displacement engines, and it's mainly in the U.S. that bigger displacement engines are sought after, and even then, not as much as lower displacement engines.

Infiniti I35 and Acura TL both were in direct competition with the GS300. This is the entry level midsize luxury sedan category. Each had V6 engines with similar amounts of horsepower. They WERE not ARE in the same class. Granted Lexus out sold them both, but they were all in the same class. Research............

Honestly, I don't care which car can take who. The GS should be quicker off the line sice the Q45 was a much heavier car; but this is something I clearly don't want to debate. As stated in my first post, I don't race cars at stop lights or interstate...only childish idiots do that. If you want to race, go rent out a track!

Well from what i know back than in the euro scene, they only had made the gs300. no 400 or 430. but they did introduce the ls400. the ls400 was more of a luxury car. but mind you they made the gs to compete with the jaguars and the mercedes. and yes the gs300 was a more economical car that still moves! not to mention the famous engine lol

As of 2013 the V8 has been dropped in the GS due to very slow sales. Hell...the 528 is a 4 now. Times are changin.

You are right about the 266, simple math will tell you that (266 < 300), which was stupid based on the weight of that model. As far as the 340 not 345 hp motor, I have to disagree. What you said is your opinion, but it's very far from the truth. It's the same motor they were putting in the old and new M45 models. Great motor, was very strong, the downside is that it burned a lot of oil. Design defect because they used low tension rings on the pistons to squeeze extra hp out of that motor. Other than that, it is a great motor and pushed every bit of 340 HP out. If it didn' please provide proof to back up your statement. If I'm wrong I'll admit it, but I need to view your proof first.

The GS is not an entry level car, it never was. The ES competed with the FWD I35 and TL. The GS was significantly more expensive, RWD. The GS competed with the M45 from Infiniti (once they built it) as well as the 5 series BMW and E Class Mercedes.
Actually no, when Toyota introduced Lexus they had only the LS and ES. The GS & SC didn't come along until 1992 for the SC and 1993 for the GS.
