what i notice about throttle body and tensioner pully
I was changing my spark plug and decided to clean the throttle body. I notice in the natural state, the throttle body valve does no close all the way. it is slightly open. In pic one, the valve is natural and angled. in pic 2 i held it close. is that normal?
another thing i noticed is that my pulley is huge! it causes the belt to rub against the power steering pulley. if you can notice the end of the belt is starting to tear and i do get a little screeching now. what is not right in this situation?

First off ALWAYS list in your post the car and Engine you have..
1. Dont listen anything 818gs has to say.
2. TB looks fine. I hope you didnt spray cleaner straight into it, either way be prepared for High idle.
3. You have the wrong pulley for your car. its most likely Napa,Doorman, etc.. Lexus has to different Part # 's for that pulley.
A. the correct one. #166030W030
B. the one you have. #166030W010
I doubt you bought it from Lexus since they always ask for your Vin# for part match reference. Go to Sewell or your local Lexus dealer and get it. AUTOZONE/Pepboys WILL ONLY have the one you have now.

throttle plate doesnt close all the way so u can idle. other manufactuers have different ways to allow cars to idle, like bypass valves.
as for the pulley, it does look pretty big. the tensioner on the lexus i believe comes with locktite of some sort. i remember trying to remove the pulley and changing it before, only to have the threads on the tensioner go on me. i ended up replacing the whole tensioner itself.

Noticed this myself.
For a '01-04 GS430, all the parts stores tensioners show a 102mm pulley diameter (Gates, Hayden, Dayco, Goodyear).
The correct diameter is 90mm which the parts stores show only for the '05 GS430.
When it comes to the tensioner for a GS430, the parts stores are in a big cluster F. Just get OEM and or you'll be driven insane (like this guy below who ordered a 102mm parts store tensioner): notice the tensioner pulley is touching the PS pulley because it's too big

Since the part number system is screwed up, most people buy the part, go to install it, and only then realize something is wrong... pain in the ***.
