Should I not be putting regular unleaded fuel in my Sport Design?

Obviously you guys know nothing of what octane means. It's the rate of burn. "cheap gas" as you call it is got nothing to do with octane. The reason you use the higher octane in a Lexus is because the compression and computer is set up for that octane. On the other hand, if you put high octane gas in a car set up for regular (like a Camry) you are wasting your money. What diferentiates cheap gas from good gas is not octane(yes higher octane cost more but it still can be crappy gas) but the cleanliness of the storage tank, the quality and maintenance of the filters from the storage tank to the pump nozzle and the additives that are put into the gas. For example, SAMs club gas has very little additives so if you use it I would recommend adding an additive like techtron to your tank. On the other hand shell probably has enough in it as is. Costco is probably the best discount gas in that they do better maintenance to their filters and put some decent additives. Also some cars run better on a certain brand for some reason.

Seriously, the car runs fine on 89. If it detects knock it dials back the timing, that's what the ECU is for. I lived through the "smog era" of the mid-70s, believe me I know what ping sounds like.

The way I figure it, its still bad gas... Heres a perfect example. (whether you like taco bell or not isnt the question ) If you got their beans and mixed 50/50 with a pot of caca, would you like it? Well thats what 89 is. Its caca (87) mixed with beans (91+).
I sure dont like poopoo.

Our cars arent like american cars( not saying theres anything wrong with american cars; i LOVE american carsss LOL) but yeah like everyone eles that owns a lexus. they all saying if you can afford to drive a lexus; than you should be able to pay for the gas which is not much more at the end.
its just like owning a Porsche or Ferrari and not being able to pay to maintain the car lol.
