GS 300 or GS 400? Which one to buy?
#16
I have a 400 and love it. One of my good friends has a GS300 and although he likes the comfort, he hates how slow it is and yes the 2jz has potential but to tap that potential it's gonna cost at least 6 Grand. The GS400 always puts a smile on my face when i drive it.

I was looking at GS300 and GS400 to buy back in March, I bought the GS400. I did some research on the GS's and I totally agree that the GS400 is one of the best and most reliable car ever built by Lexus. Ride and built quality are top notch. I've owned several newer cars ( Acura, Infiniti, ect..) but the GS400 is my favorite car. I like the way it looks and I to drive it..My car now has 148K miles and still drives like a champ. I did change the control arms and ball joints due to the high mileage, other than that the car is good. If u go with the GS400 it definitely worth the money. For MPG I average 24/25 MPG on highway driving. If u want a used reliable car, I highly recommend the GS400...

To sum up and agree with the consensus opinion, if you don't plan on going FI the 400 is the way to go, everything else being equal.
A 300 will be much easier and cheaper to boost but if you're not looking to do heavy performance mods you'll be happier with the V8, the gas mileage difference is negligeable and its much quicker.
Good luck with your search!

That would be the ls400 the fit and finish of the ls400 is way better, and Lexus went out of its way to make it as solid as possible.

If your not looking for engine mods go 400/430....NA 2J will get boring quick due to the weight of the car and the NA power....I've had my 430 for 6yrs and I love the way it performs...

This particular car is $4k, but i'd be fine going up to $8k for the right car.
I thought the car sounded fishy, too much car at that price. Got the VIN and ran it through the Lexus.com site for service history. He says the car is under 100,000 miles... It's last service at a Lexus dealer was in 2010 at over 200,000 miles!
Just a tip, you can look up service history on any Lexus vehicle at lexus.com under the Lexus owners section.
Now i'm hunting again, the closest GS400s in any kind of reasonable condition are at least 4 hours away. I'm bummed. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
