And adapters? What kind? I was thinking of just by-passing the amp and get a 4 channel and such.....
But if there are drop in replacements I would do that too. What ohm are the speakers stock with ML system?

... 6.5 speakers fit all round with adapters you can buy from ebay/online. there is one specific website. the guy makes them and sells them both direct through his site or through ebay auctions. i think its speaker adapters.com google it . should be super easy to find..
idk if there are direct drop in speakers but im sure if u find the same sized speakers as the stock ones, you can drop them into the enclosures in our doors. i have the non ML and they are 4 inch speakers all around.

That's the part that concerns me.
However, if I wanted to bypass the ML amp......and get a decent 4 channel......will I need anything special? Or just put the amp in place and plug-n-play?
And I will get those adapters so I can shove 6.5's in there.
Any brand recommendations? I have an employee Best Buy discount (half off) so I was thinking Polk audio for the 6.5's

if you want to get a four channel u can do one of three things:
1. get a deck or double din to get singal to ur amp(s)
2. get a loc for the highs and for lows.
3. get a processor for integrating factory sound (essentially the same as a loc. just fancier. and also the route i went)
i would recommend the adapters. much easier to find speaker sizes in 6.5s and 5 1/4. they sell adapters for both. but u might as well go with 6.5s while ur at it.

if youre not going for any audio thats TOO fancy then yeah i guess some polks or infinitys kappa perfects would be good enough. otherwise u might be able to get something better for similar amount

What kind of processor for integrating factory sound did you use? Link?
What is truly the easy way that won't distort the sound much?

your are dynomating your car and routing powercables for an aftermarkt amp through the interieur...
Basically you will have to rip the whole car appart.
There is no reason to stick to the oem parts with all that time spend.
Go all in.
Find a decent headunit and route a set of Chinch and Speakercable to the trunk.
The headunit ist the key for a good soundsystem.
6.5 all around and a nice 12" sub in the trunk will make more fun than any hybridsolution with the OEM navunit because of its low current output (below 1 Volt. a good headunit dishes out 6,5 V to the amp)
Polk is fine unless you want to break some DB Dragrace.
