Default GS300 280HP without turbo?

Hey CL I was wondering if a 2GS300 could reach 280HP without having to go turbo? JeffTsai said you could do intake headers full exhaust tuning stage 2 cams with SAFC you will see significant gains .... just wondering if this is enough to reach around 280 to the wheels?

I could give you 280whp n/a

you'll need a standalone, headers, exhaust, cams

run race fuel and we can keep adding timing till she pops. lol

Bore the block, Bump the compression up, Beef up the internals a bit, increase the fuel, free flowing intake and exhaust. Cams, increased spark.
Find a 2JZ-GE pull out motor cheap and work it up over time.

I can see it going over that and sounding amazing.

or u could just get a GS400/GS430 for less than you would spend to build the gs300 to the same HP

Or get a 2JZGTE swap which would be more potable to power than an 8cyl and cheaper.

Why not just get a GS400/430? Is it the cost of gas? If so we can do some simple math to figure out how much more your spending per year.

A couple of assumptions first:

1) annual miles driven per year = 12,000
2) Average Cost of gas = $4/gallon
3) GS300 Average # of miles per gallon = 21 (motortrend listed 2003 year as 25/25 but its likely we would get less)
4) GS430 Ave # of miles per gallon = 18 (based on my current experiences on my '02 GS430)

GS300 Total # of gallons required in 1 year = 12,000/21 = 571.42
GS300 Annual Gas cost = 571.42 * $4 = $2,285.71

GS430 Total # of gallons required in 1 year = 12,000/18 = 666.66
GS430 Annual Gas cost = 666.66 *$4 = $2,666,66

Difference in gas cost = $380.95/yr

How much would it cost to increase the horsepower of a GS300 to that of the GS430 a few thousand?

So really the price difference in gas cost isn't much.

Maybe 280 at the crank. But the money you'll be spending and getting it to 280bhp, you'll be better off just going boost.

You could find one with a A340 tranny from anywhere between $1,500 to 2,000+. And then you have the labor which prices vary. Even if you do spend a little bit more, without a doubt you'll make more power with the GTE than you'll ever make with the na GE.

Exactly, why go through all that trouble? Unless you already own a 300
