Default Got some bad news about my new car today...

So I've had my new car over at my buddy's shop for the last 2 days getting some work done. Oil leak, catch can and tru boost gauge installed, and looking in to the breaking up issue its having...Anyways long story short, he did a compression check on the motor, the front 4 are all 150 and the rear 2 are only 90....Couldn't be more pissed/sad/mad etc...Just seriously sucks to drop the money I did and have to put a new block in the car.

So after talking to my buddy about what to do, we've decided to go with a GTE block. He had a couple around his shop, so going to be sending it out to the machine shop to get all refreshed so its good to go...Going to keep driving the car as is until it dies or I decide to put it in..

Anyways anyone ever done a GTE block swap on there car? I'm sure its pretty staight foward..

Damn..that sucks.. Did the seller disclose any problems with the way it ran? did he do a compression test?

Before i sold my Supra i did a compression test for my Own Reference/piece of mind, so no one can come back and claim the Motor was shot when they received the car.. I also video taped it. Things you learn dealing with cars and its SCENE..

Heres a quick tip not only for you but anyone else purchasing used cars. The used car law is pretty much "AS IS" How ever if you can prove previous owner knew the problems before selling it and did not disclose it, it holds grounds for Fraud.

Its a fine line to determine, but can be done and has been done (speaking from experience)

Good luck.

No I don't think he knew, I hope he didn't. Puff seems like a stand up guy, was good to deal. It definetly sucks though, but I'm just going to call it **** happens when your dealing with boosted cars...

Thanks guys, I'll still be driving it until everything is ready to go. I'm going to plan to pull the motor myself and let the shop put everything together and then I'll throw it all back in myself...Try to save a little money if I can..

I think aside from the money of course, the thing that really just make me feel like **** is I won't be getting my wheels, and carbon pieces anytime soon, so my plan to do some show for my first time is ****ed...I've never done any type shows and was really excited and looking foward to it...

When did you buy it? So why is it exactly that it has low compression on last 2 cylinders? Worn rings/block? What symptoms were you experiencing?

It will all work out for better buddy! You will have a almost new engine. Might as well replaced some other stuff while you there

That sucks....Might as well build a block, so you boost more pistons (lower CR and rods)

Bought the car about 2 weeks ago from a CL member...My guess would be rings, I had taken the car in to get a couple things done, it's been having a fuel/boost cut issue in 4th/5th gear over 80mph, the power was just cutting out... So now it has a AEM tru boost gauge/controller so we can monitor it...Anyways the shop checked the plugs and compression and found out the 2 were low...

Yeah the motor should be good when its done. A stock GTE bottom will do what I want for power easy...Seen guys making 800whp on stock block, I want only half of that, mabye 450 or so down the road. Will need a built tranny first though..

So you go in to install a boost gauge, check a boost cut issue and repair a turbo oil leak and your friend says that you have low compression in two cylinders? It's only been 3 weeks bro. Now I really regret selling my car since the only reason I sold it was because another car that I really wanted got sold the same day you picked up mine. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I'm sorry to hear about the news. You've got a nice project on your hands. Why don't you keep the block you have now and invest in a new set of forged pistons and rings? It's about the same as a used short block.

Yeah we have the leak fixed, the turbo was leaking and also the oil pan fitting was leaking, fixed both of those, installed the catch can setup, and put the aem tru boost in. Took it for a spin and he noticed a little miss, so brought it back to the shop and took the plugs out, checked them out and decided to test the compression and the rest is history. Yeah i'm sure it was like that when you had it to, car will still drive and boost fine, after we figure out that issue but it's ticking time bomb right now. I haven't even been into the car yet, haven't been able to cause of that boost issue.... Can't tell you how disappointed I am, buy the car, dump money in the tt wheels and tires, get all the leaks fixed, install a couple necessary things, catch can and boost gauge/controller and now have to dump money into a whole new block...

I already have the GTE block, got it for $400, it's getting sent out to the machine shop in the next week to get all refreshed... Will probally be around $1200 in the block, then I don't know what it'll cost to get the block all put together... Not fun stuff, but I love the car so i'll drop the dough to make sure everything is done right this time...

The shop is Freed Engineering, they know there **** when it comes to these motors. I know there are bunch of people on here that would vouch for there work. Jeff with the tt V8 GS had/has his car over there...Ben wouldn't tell me something that wasn't true...

That sucks. Did you beat on the car when you got it? If you drove the car away from him after you did the transaction with puff and you knew it was missing in 4th gear you should have made the trip back to where you and him bought the car (assuming its his house). My last turbo car was purchased brand new and still had leaking turbos when all my modding was said and done so any FI car will have issues...

As for the other issues, if you knew (being that either he told you, or you saw from your knowledge) that these parts needed to be replaced then you took it upon yourself to purchase the car as is.
