water etching is sweet, but pricey from what i've seen. If it ever becomes reasonable, i'll do my ES300 interior like the factory option in Japan was.

I am only doing the 4 door pieces and the center console. Thats brown wood now and I dont like it.

I already have a Sport Blackwood steering wheel. So I want the wood to match it...or i leave the steering wheel wood and do the wood pieces piano black.

I contacted Source Hydro and I am planning on sending them my pieces today. I want the OEM look, so this is a much better solution than painting or tinting IMHO. I like to do things right the first time.

Just shipped out my 4 door pieces and center console to get them done!

Will post pictures when I get them back.

The price was very reasonable. Contact them for quotes.

I 'smoked' my wood back in... '05? We added a black candy to clear coat to darken the wood.
The desired effect wasn't to make it black, although with enough coats you could get there. Unless you made it almost opaque, you would likely still see some wood/brown tone, however.

I had some pics in the gallery, but I guess they are gone now. This is what I have:

I continued to sand the wood surfiace for a couple more minutes to verify that it would not wear off like a simulated pattern would. If I continued to sand, I'm sure I would go right through the veneer and hit the plastic backing.

There you have it folks !

Here’s my Blackwood setup from 8 years ago as well. New members should DO A SEARCH. There’s a LOT of valuable information from the past on this topic.
