Lexus GS300 horrible horsepower

Yea and the M5 and the M3 are known for performance. I mean when you see them you know what they are. When you see a GS series you don't think of it that way at all. Look at the inside of a 3 series and then look at the inside of an M3 big difference and also with the 5 series to the M5. Most people who buy GS430 or GS400 buy them used. Then they do get a fair price but at sticker is horrible.

I don't get your arguement? BMW 525i looks like 530i looks like 540i. No different sheet metal goes on those three trim levels. Oh, and price difference between 525i and 540i > $10,000. Same for Mercedes.
BTW, nobody should pay sticker for a new Lexus. Do your homework and check edmunds.com for TMV pricing.

If you think you would feel stupid for spending an extra $10k and getting only a bigger engine, then take that $10k, install a turbo and some other goodies and you will smoke 400/430's but still maintain that sleeper look. That's the nice thing about a GS... people just don't realize its potential until they are staring at it's tail lights

Currently, there are a VERY few supercharged GS400s and some planned turbocharged ones but RIGHT NOW you can buy a turbosystem for the 300 that will give more power than most supercharged 400s have. The SRT turbo 400/430s will offer more but will be MUCH more $$$.
So, for now anyway, the 300 is king for max street power in the 300-400 argument.

I'd Take a Lex over an Acura or Infinity and especially a Nisson, any day. True they have a little more power, but the comfort and Luxury from the Lexus surpasses them, and is enough for me to offset the power differences. I bought the car to cruise anyways

you are right about the m3 and m5, but from outside, or even mostly inside, tell me the difference between 540i and 530i, and e430 and e320. all these v8 engines are beasts, manaufacturers don't really make them to make money, but for the class and capture the little market.
to the extreme, look at the mb s600, v12 engine. they don't exactly the same as the s430 but they are so fast and smooth. you probably don't even want to look at the price difference. there are still people getting it for its power and class

99 GS 300 is just fine with me...
I think everyone have valid points. I'm amazed at the power the GS300 has. It cruise's at 80 all day long. It passes and it can get in and out of traffic just fine. If I purchased the GS400/430, I wouldn't modify the engine, it's fast enought for everything in it's class. Where do you draw the line with modification? I really admire everyone for taking pride in their GS's. I just can't see paying a lot of money for car and spending 5-10 thousand dollars more in modifications. I've seen so many cars on the market that list all the modifications and stereo upgrades and that is only important to the owner or a select buyer group. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at member rides and they are all great. I guess the point I'm trying to make, If you can do it, why not do it.
Another question, I would like to know the average age of the GS owners on the Club?

same goes to buying a car too. some people like to get all options and be happy with it. some people get everything and on top of that put in 10k. some people get the most basic and do some crazy stuff. it's all good, as long as they take pride in their rides
