Modification Ideas Thread
Hey guys,
So im new to this forum, but not new to my lexus. I have a 99' Lexus GS300. The thing is my baby. But i figure its time to make some improvements on it. I have an idea of what i want to do, but have no idea what the right or best parts are for each of my ideas. I really want to start building on this car, and would love to get some input from you guys
What do you think is the best option for everything id want to do, im not looking for huge power gains, just maybe a couple of more horses.
What should i do for a boost? if anything? options?
Rims? best ones? my car is gold, any suggestions?
Exhaust, whats good? i dont want that annoying *** sound, but something just to let the already powerful engine roar.
intake? any ideas?
Cost efficiency is of course key, i dont want to shell out huge for parts, not top of the line, but average parts work for me.
Thanks for any input! Would love to start on a project and get it posted up!

first thing most folks start with is suspension.
suspension - coilovers or springs & shock setup. $700-1400 new depending on what you get.
wheels - OEM wheels from other lexus models wheels since youre looking for cost efficiency $500-1000
intake - stick with oem or just add a high flowing filter $40-50 or aftermarket intake with apexi neo or SRT intake $300-550
exhaust - if you dont want sound, you can stick with a bigger exhaust tip to fil lthe back end. 30-75$
for extra hoses where you can notice a difference there's not much we can really do to a gs300 unless you shell out to get a turbo setup or look back and see if you can get the 400/430 model.

From what I've seen most bolt on "performance parts" for the GS300 didnt add much. I think the ebay headers would make the most noticeable difference, albeit not much.

First I would say go suspension...you can go springs preferably Tanabe DF or NF those ride perfect....and get new shocks if yours is bad. ($250 springs) (500 shocks)
Then rims...The New IS rims are staggered you can find those or the new GS wheels...I have the IS on my car rides perfect ($600 Craigslist)
Then for the engine to get real power you have two options either Na-T or GTE swap (around 6000 including labor)

Here's what i'd suggest..
For suspension, go coils, no reason to go springs because 99% of people end up switching to coils anyway and you can buy a whole coilover setup for the same amount a new set of springs/shocks would cost you, PLUS they're 100% easier to put in.
For a nice drop, but affordable and good ride.
-: Megan EZ/LP Coilovers
-: BC Racing
I have the Megan's and they treat me right.
Power wise if you don't want to boost your best bet will be OBX Headers + SRT Intake. That's the best you're gonna get without killing the pockets for a NA-T or engine swap setup.
Exhaust if you want something good but doesn't kill your pockets i'd go with the Top Speed Pro 1 Performance Exhaust. I have their exhaust and it's very deep and nice. Not annoying, raspy, or loud.
Here's a link to their eBay and exhaust: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-GS300-...item35b5e42f8f
I have that exhaust and am local to their shop. They're good peeps and you can trust buying over eBay from them. They also carry the headers.
Wheels, IMHO, just keep looking through the classifieds. Nice wheels for a good price are always popping up and on a Champagne GS just about anything with a polished face and a chrome lip would kill.
So here it is in list form..
-Suspension-
-: Megan EZ Coilovers 10/8k
-: Megan LP's Coilovers 12/10k
-: BC Racing
-Performance-
-: OBX Headers
-: SRT Intake w/ Race ECU Upgrade
-Exhaust-
-: Top Speed Pro 1 (IMHO this will be your best bang for the buck)
Good luck and hope I helped.

Suspension - BC Racing coilovers
Wheels - OEM 3GS wheels
Performance - OBX headers, Tanabe Medalion Touring exhaust or the slightly cheaper HKS Hi-Power, SRT Intake with ECU (skip the headers if you're worried about noise)
Then if you want to go ahead and start buying some cosmetic parts, I'd say JP roof spoiler and JP 3 piece spoiler. Since you're looking to be cost effective, look on eBay for replicas. For the front end, just grab a replica TTE lip. However, if you're not into rocking reps then just keep it stock.
