19" step lip would give you both aesthetics and performance. Let us know if you need any help on fitment, design, or pricing.

For performance you should be looking for light weight, and strong, wheels then going from there. 18's and 19's are probably where you want to be. 20 will be too large.

Are you planning on putting the car around a track?

You are in GA, check out the SE forums for meets in your area. I have pretty much every suspension mod on my GS and have 18s currently but will be moving to 19s or 20s shortly and still intend to "perform"

Since you want performance, the biggest would be 19's. Like Mike said, since your in Ga, you can come to a meet and see first hand some of the rides with various wheel choices. I myself have a set of HRE's, staggered in 19's on my black GS, but wanna go up to 20", so check em out and maybe we can work something out. HRE's are the best of both worlds, looks and the performance to back them up!!

Search and you will see TONS of options. I say 19 or 20, dont go with 18.

What kind of performance are you speaking of? Power transfer? Handling? Braking? If you are focused on performance, in general, stay with 18s (or at most 19s). Get something lightweight. Stay close to OEM wheel diameter. Get good tires.

If you wanna be geared more towards performance 18" forged monoblocks are the way to go.
