Guys, I was actually REALLY considering running my '01 GS430 down the quarter mile a couple times this past summer (or FALL- which would be even better probably)- but I never did. I'd love to see the time by a PROFESSIONAL DRIVER, on our of "our" 100k+ STOCK GS430's now...

I STILL love the GS400 for it's PEPPYness, too...but I've never driven one. Just rode... I'd bet a 130k-mile STOCK GS430 could still run the 1/4 in under 14.7 or so... that's just my guess. My Grand Prix GTX (GTP w/ Ram-Air by SLP!) ran a 14.8, and I KNOW the GS would beat it !

But yeah, OP- I thought the same thing when I saw the Factory Lexus specs for the SC430... same EXACT engine & output- but not as fast. I could the extra weight really does matter (aren't the 2nd-gen SC's like 400 lbs heavier ?)

Which car is faster?

01-05 GS430
06+ IS350

Which car wins 0-60 and 1/4 mile?

Imho, it depends on the driver. But all things being equal and both cars being stock the IS350 should beat the GS4 0-60 due to its aggressive gearing. The 1/4 mile wil be a lot closer with the edge to the IS350. However, a rolling race starting at 40 or any speed higher, I think the GS4 has it. I also feel that the V8 in the GS4 responds to bolt on mods better than the IS350.

Also, one thing that is SO crazy to me is the wide gap of performance between a well maintained GS4 with 120k miles and a poorly maintained GS4 with 120k miles. Most of the GS4s that people will have run-ins with are now or have been poorly maintained. Reason being is your average Joe doesn't feel like dumping a lot of money just to replace items with new to regain top performance. I see videos all the time of a GS4 looking real slow. Then I hear and read on forums that a guy with a G35/G37 got taken by a rather stock one. So end result, don't sleep on a GS4 because even though she's old, she may be well maintained and surprise ya. Good luck with either car though; both are nice but have the usual pros and cons to weigh out.

is350 is faster but those times for the GS is impressive when it's not even marketed for speed at all

You stress maintenance but there isn't a whole lot to maintain here. As long as the car has spark, good fuel pressure, and compression, it will make just about the same power at 120K as it made at 20K. And if you have bad tune up parts, weak fuel pump, or lack of compression, it's not hard to tell.

I would venture to say that most used GS400/430 out there are running around with good tunes if they are passing smog periodically.

I'm with Rock, Both my GS's (400 & 430) are low mileage, and very very well maintained and I also have a 2011 IS350. I'm tellin ya, its a driver's race because its a close race if you consider one of my GS's against my own IS350. From a dig the IS350 has the advantage on the GS's but from 40mph and up (rolling) GS wins. Except for my GS400 which isn't stock and isn't a fair comparison which will beat my IS350 from any speed. But Stock for Stock, i think the IS350 is definitely more peppy and more aggressive in gearing, but even a IS350 shouldn't fall asleep when they see a GS400/430 on the highway..

@Bay, you said there isn't much to maintain. well I changed my rear diff fluid every 15-30K depends on my type of usage, I also do a tranny drain and fill about every 30K miles. I consistently clean my injectors & fuel system every 5K miles. Its not alot to do besides the regular interval maintenance but a lil more than just oil changes. Also, I've own G35/37 coupes and they're fast and I love'em too but i'll bet on my "own GS's" any day..

P.S. Noone answered my question about taking the VSC button off and if the car can peel out or break the tires loose
If you want to break the tires loose turn VSC off and press on the gas while holding the brakes and let go of the breaks.

Maint items such as...new MAF sensor, all new O2 sensors, new spark plugs, maint of fluids in all areas. Believe it or not all these items can help or hurt performance. And guess what, you won't necessarily get a CEL when these items start to go to crap. Only when they reach that "dead" status is when it can throw a code. Before that, you can pass inspections and feel that your car runs pretty good. Then you take a ride in another GS4 where things are maintained and certain parts are swapped out and all of a sudden you realize you can get a lot more out of your GS. The reason why I go to the extreme with my car as far as maint goes is because I have been prepping the car for more power...my SC kit that I have been delaying for 2 years now. But nontheless, it's good practice anyway to keep up on these items for the cars longevity; especially if the body still looks nice.

Haven't you seen the GS400 commercial? When something wicked this way comes! It is clearly marketed for it's raw hp!
