Dam! The vultures are hovering already. LOL. Well it looks like a used engine can be had for ~$1500. It might just be worth it to replace the engine. Not sure yet. What is my car worth with a blown engine?

Yep...it's black.

Is it worth it to part it out or better to just sell as is?

well thats up to you....it can be profitable to part and you MIGHT be able to make some money selling it as a whole. it def will be worth more with the black interior but who knows which one will get you more

I found a used GS400 engine for $1300. Still waiting to hear the cost for removing the old engine and installing a used one. Plus the cost of upgrading the suspension since that has never been done. Not sure if its all worth it.

Might just try to see what I can get for it "as is" and pick up something else.

I decided to sell the GS. My father in law is interested in buying it. Whats a good price? 198,000 miles, silver on black. Diagnose is a thrown rod. Was running perfectly before this.

just go through edmunds.com appraiser. You should select major mechanical problems. Print it out and just agree on it with your father-in-law. This way you have a 3rd party document, rather then your own estimation. (Edmunds is relatively realistic, rather than kbb which seems bloated)

Also it's your father in law, you should consider how much a good relationship/favor is worth over a few hundred or thousand dollars here and there.

Thanks. I didn't know Edmunds had that for cars with mechanical problems. I will check it out. If my FIL isn't interested I will just post here and Craigslist I guess.

Man, i think you'll get more money parting it out! People on here will pay top dollar for that clean black interior! IMHO! You should do some research on parts pricing!

well i do have an offer for $3,000 but you never know if an offer is good until you have the money in hand. I will try and do a little research on parting it out.

If anyone is interested in parts let me know.
