With cars close in performance there are too many variables to account for . I am big on maintenance. You can have a guy with a stock '07 g35 that runs a stock '00 GS400 and beats him. Now he thinks that all GS400's can be taken. Not true! All cars are closely matched in all areas. But I am telling you right now, when a v8 hasnt been maintained there is a lot of torque lost. Perhaps you wouldnt notice it on a daily basis though. I replaced my MAF, spark plugs, cleaned my TB, cleaned the air filter and changed my cats. Big difference, and that is just changing/cleaning stock parts. now, an '07+ car most likely won't be in the same dire need for maintenence. So in closing, if you are going to run an older car always keep it in the back of your head that the results of the race may not be typical. So, dont go around claiming anything broadly, like this car hands down beats those cars. Only talk about YOUR experience. Also, keep in mind, dont forget that eventhough a v8, it is one of the smallest v8 auto engines ever made; 4.0 litre. The new cars with v6's have 3.7 litres!

So true , I rather have a car that is stock running in tip top shape than a car that is modded and is running in sub par condition. Most of the time the car that is running in the best condition will have the advantage.

However, my entire suspension is in need of a serious overhaul. The only thing that is OK is my Bilstein PSS coilovers. I think I am going to look into TRD sway bars, bushings, chasis brace and 6-link kits; not anytime soon though.

I drive my V8 GS400 everyday.. the kick back in the seats from the engine... I havent felt in not another car yet. The power is something I had to get used to. Anyone who owns a 400 knows what im talking about. sorry but a FWD Max isnt no where near the feeling... cant even compare the two
Reviews of the GS400 everyone talked about the killer engine.. never heard that about a Maxima (ever) or a G sedan.
The GS400 was the worlds fastest auto sedan. Drive it correct and you will win.. period.
But a good point about the 400's being on the road longer so unless the 400 has been takin good care it could lose. But a brand spankin new V8 GS400 motor ? I'd take that over the Max and Inifniti anyday

Yeah speaking from experience, i use to own a '02 Maxima , I wouldn't have any problems out running GS300 or GS400 or even '01-'06 G35's. The '02' and '03 are the fastest Maximas stock to date. Out of the box I would run consistenst 14.4 runs , with mods 13.9. The VQ3.5 have alot of torque across the rev range but they lose steam up top after 120 mph. The 02 and 03 models were the last true
4DSC (4 door sports car) before Maximas got obese and slow. The '02 nd '03 models weighed 3260 lbs, 40lbs shy of a 350Z, so the weight to power ratio in those Maximas where exceptional.
But in the end I still rather drive my GS, RWD, luxury, smoothness, something the Maxima never had and my Maxima had leather and all the bells and whistles and the interior fit and finish was still sub par.

So to sum it up NONE of my Maximas were faster than the GS400. I know own the same GS400 I had raced against all these years.
Disclaimer: to be fair, the GS400 ran a SWT intake ECU piggy. All the Maximas at the time had intakes.
The '01 Maxima:
The '03:
The '05:
And the GS400 I now own after getting beat by it all these years:
