Yeah I actually broke just about even with the engine swap ... As for the interior its night an day. Definitely is more room in the GS. I needed that having a 1yr old. The IS has 4 doors but it really only fits two comfortably. I remember I use to hit my knee on the steering wheel just getting out the car if I didn't put the wheel all the way in the up position; even the doors open wider more so than the IS. Another great thing people can't believe its a 10+ year old car.

The IS is a younger persons car and the car to keep if you like throwing it around the curves. The GS is the better highway cruser with a more cushy ride(stock) with more bulk. My wife calls my GS an old man's car and says I should get something like my son's IS. I wouldn't trade my GS for an IS as I like the power, ride, comfort and interior of the GS.

Me too also did the switch from an IS to a GS about a year ago... I never looked back. Reason I switched is because I wanted more room inside. I didn't mind the difference in power because I don't race anyways.
I got a couple buddy who drives IS350 and now thinking about switching to GS. Actually one of my boy already put his IS350 for sale.

good feed guys, much appreciate.
room isnt an issue for me and i dont lug my friends around, car is low enough.
power and quickness is number #1 concern, dont want to lose too much of that.
interior look/feel is #2 concern.
aftermarket go fast goodies is #3

Power can be solved with a GS400/430, or a 2JZGTE swap
My friend has a 2IS and the interior quality (material-wise) of the GS beats the IS hands down. But of course being an old car, the interior looks outdated, especially if you get the 98-00 GS. 01+ interiors look a lot more refreshed

Well if it helps any, I went from a 350hp 2005 Mustang GT to a 2002 GS300 and absolutely love it. The transmission shifts flawlessly and the car still looks brand new. Couldn't be happier! There have been a few occasions where I did miss the extra hp, but nothing that I couldn't live with. If I would have been able to find a 400/430 just as clean as the 300 I bought then I would go with the V8. Both the 300/400 would suit you well it just depends on the performance level that you are seeking. IMHO I think the IS is a beautiful car but has feminine lines to it. The GS was developed way before its time and looks just as good if not better than some of the newer cars out there. I mean my wife wanted me to get an IS350 and I just laughed. Here is a pic of the car I just bought. Good luck
