Here is one of my favorite handgun holster mount for your car from Texas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b2EizMiI5g

I do favor your current method of keeping your pistol between seat and the center console. (Obviously if you have a children on the front seat...you'll definetely take more cautions on this method). More you conceal your weapon..more difficult and it'll take longer for you to use your weapon if in need to react. Let me give you an example. Let's say you drive upto McDonald's, your favorite place to pick up girls and cheese burger and while you start to approach the pickup window, you hear someone approach from the side. And, then you notice 2 unfriendlies get out and don their masks. Your heart is pumping....and you have to make decision 1) you stick around for your cheeseburger 2) defend your life. So, let's just say..you pick #2 because you just didn't feel like dying that night. So as the 2 masked man makes an approach towards your car...you decide to grap your weapon. Uh huh...I concealed/hidden the pistol inside the trunk / deep under the seat / behind the passenger seat; on the floor / under my fat *** and mostlikely in a real life scenrio:...Where did I put the GUN!!!!! b/c you tend to forget things when the masked gun mans starts to get closer to you, while pointing a gun to your car...mostlikely you'll be praying and getting yourself soiled pretty good by now.

So here it is: My most recommended place to keep your pistol is to keep it close to you. I keep mine on my body at all times with a - CQC(close quarters combat) Holsters by blackhawks.
