I remember seeing some VW guys hacking up their wheels and re-welding the barrels......but I don't know if I would ever butcher a set like that. Plus, that can't be structurally sound.

Have you tried talking to a Wald dealer or a wheel refinishing shop?

its a standard 40 hole wheel, you can source the lips for that easy.

Contact MC3 Wheels. They can make a custom barrel for you. But you may have to take the wheel apart and ship them your barrel and tell them how much wider you want it.

just buy some 40 bolt lips, they range from 100-350 per lip depending where you get them from

Just worked on some wald lips not too long ago, they are a custom bolt pattern so standard U.S. parts do not work, We can make them if your interested.

I'm not sure why people think all wheels with 40 holes are the same - they aren't, especially when comparing the US made parts to Japanese made parts.

I rebuilt some AMEs for my friend Nick's 240 a couple years ago - I used 40 hole US made parts but had to redrill them. The center opening size is different, too.

It's possible, but not a slam dunk. Also, use new assembly hardware.

Yup, even Japanese barrels are all not the same. I recently did work on both Maya/Traffic Star and Fabulous wheels and it's a different bolt pattern. What was weird was that the Face was also a different diameter, the Maya/Traffic Star wheel face is about 1/4" bigger than the Fabulous.
