Default left headlight (hid) keeps going out!

its funny i was just making fun of my cuzs honda yesterday ..i was telling her that that so far i had to spend 0$ on repairs on my GS400 2000 ..and that your 04" car in the shop every six months for brakes or lights or check engine light .etc ha

my left headlight which are HIDS on gs400 just went out today, i turn the head light on and off it comes back on for like 30 secs and it goes out again? do you guys think its the bulb going bad? or the ballast? or both? any help would be appreciated, thanks agian-uz

Bulbs probably going bad. To be sure, switch the bulbs to the opposite side. If it's the same problem, you most likely have a bad ballast.

I'm telling you man...it's the bulb. Mine did the SAME THING. Turn the headlights off and then back on again. Both go on and stay on, then all of a sudden the one headlight goes out and your like WTF??? I thought it was the ballast also until I was proven wrong by the local Lexus stealer. While I was at it I upgraded to a different Kelvin HID. From stock 4300 to 6400.

NO!!!!! You could possibly die...not a joke! In the HID system, the ballasts convert the 12 Volt system into over 20,000 Volts in order to charge the gases to produce light in the bulbs; you will get electrocuted! If you swap bulbs yourself make sure you disconnect the negative battery terminal as well!

You can just change bulbs without dropping the bumper. It's a little bit of a PITA on the driver side if my memory serves me well...

Just unscrew the cover in the back, unplug the ballast, and unclip the bulb. No need to remove the whole headlight or bumper.

Listen, you can get great quality HID bulbs @ whatever Kelvin you want for around $150-$200 for the pair on the internet...high quality! You want to change both at the same time because the lights will look different between the old one and the new one...even if it's the same temp. rating (ie 4300). This is because as HID bulbs get older they start to lose their luminescence. The bulbs will start to look bluer/purple while when new they were on more of a white scale. Replace both as a pair to keep it legit! GL!
