Agreed. I get 24 mpg on the hwy in my 430... What other new v6 sedans are pulling 300+ hp and beat it on mileage? Ya, gs350, 335i, etc... but for 27mpg? I'll stick to 8 cylinders for added torque and comfort with a 3mpg hit thank you very MUCH!

And what is most amazing is the advanced design of the UZ engine, such as the 6 bolt mains which even today is rare in a V8, it is a race motor design. Also the high compression and quad cam layout. It is truly a vehicle that was precisely engineered to hold its place for years to come.

Even though in my GS3 I still like to think that I can overtake many of the regular cars, on the street but doesnt always happen. However, I do agree that this car was definitely ahead of its time. Back in the day when my dad was buying it brand new from the dealer, he had a selection between the GS and E class mercedes, now comparing the two the E class looks as if its from the stone age and the GS is still hanging in there. The GS is a masterpiece from Japan

That's why you gotta do some maintenance to keep it running young!

its slower now and eats more gas...
I did do maintance I think it may be a bad a torque converter or tranny all together
I got 120k on mine and did the timing belt water pump lbjs plugs diff fluid
tranny fluid tranny cooler new intake air filter...
next is going to be the fuel filter hopefully that makes a difference
it feels powerful when im reving higher like 3500 rpm etc in 4th gear on the freeway it feels fast but in 5th doesnt feel like i can get to 100 like it used to like get upto 120 before i could even blink
I definately think its slower but maybe being in fast new cars too has something to do with it.

I've test driven the 2010 CTS-V. Boy that throttle is SENSITIVE! They only come with manual transmission BTW.

The CTS-V is available with a 6 speed auto.. The trhottle is not that sensitive..

The GS is a good car ( I have one still) but magazines tend to over dramitize at times. That is why I love to just drive cars and judge for myself. If the handeling on the GS is as described in this article and others, there would be no need to modify the suspension to the extreme (bushings, sways, coils etc.) as many of us have done or in the process of doing.

Also, check into cleaning your throttle body; many have noticed a BIG difference after doing this. Changing your differential fluid wouldn't hurt either as that stuff becomes thick as molasses as time goes on leading to greater friction leading to poor gas mileage and car feeling sluggish. It's worth a shot.

This^^^

This car isn't as quick in the corners as one that hasn't driven one might think. It's still a Lexus and the GS was created to be the best of both worlds, which is performance and luxury.

The car at the time was a 4 door sports car, only the 540 at the time was better stock. The magazines were accurate, period as EVERY publication had the same glowing praise for the GS.

Time flies though, today as GSTEG stated, 0-60 in the mid to high 5s isn't unusual. 10 years ago it was special!

The GS was the fastest automatic sedan until the E55 and XJR debuted a coupe of months later.

As for price the GS 400 started at 45k which was where the previous model GS 300 was with options.

One thing those V6 do not have on us is the exhaust note. Pair it up with a set of headers + aftermarket mufflers and you've got a damn good tone that's pretty addicting. I get sick and tired of hearing those Nissan's VQ engines.

Maybe V6 using newer technology can be compared to old fashion 1UZ-FE with VVT-i at full throttle, but only full throttle. On the other hand, at full throttle CTS-V has only a slim chance to keep up with old drunken (E85) 2JZ-GTE.
