New GS4 owner, questions.
Hey All,
I just picked up a white 98 GS400 2 owner car with 150,000 miles. The previous owners had the car for 9 years and all service records. The car is pretty clean but it's not perfect. So I've got a few questions.
1. The leather is pretty dry rotted. I took it to an upholstery shop here in Kansas City, and they said there are kits, made of leather, that they could install over the existing foam. All four seats plus the arm rest for $1200.00 installed. Anyone have any experience with this?
2. I've got the dreaded 60-70mph vibration. I started to get lost in all the threads about this issue so if someone could just tell me where to start that would be great.
3. The display on the stereo is done. Can I just get the LCD part?
I don't do my own work, I can ***** up hammering a nail in a will let alone working on a car. Last but not least, does anyone have any experience with Exact Performance here in Kansas City?
Thanks in advance, Sanck

First off, welcome to CL.
Second to answer your questions..
1) From the sound of it that sounds like a pretty good deal for all seats IMO. We have a vendor on here that sells very nice covers for seats and i'm pretty sure that for the front 2 it's 500 something. Maybe if someone else comes in here and sheds some light on the topic you can get the vendors name and maybe he can give you a good deal on all seats.
2) Vibration usually is from mis-balanced wheels or it's time for new rotors (pretty sure it's rotors).
3) Honestly you can buy a whole new one for like $150 or so I think, but if you're planning on modding your car i'd just get a new in-dash and whole new system. For the time being i'd get a cassette adapter and just jam from your iPod/iPhone and your 6 CD player in the car. My stereo face is shot also and I just use my CD/iPhone and am happy.

Save yourself a bundle on your interior if you are the DIY type. Or pay someone to do it for you. See Leatherique website for their products.

My radio lights/LCD bit the dust 2 weeks after I bought my car. I live with it until it's dead. I'll grab another from a salvage yard if it does. MP3 through the cassette or burned CD's for me!

at 150k, if the brakes seem ok, take a good look at the lower control arm bushing. it is probably the culprit. that one part can affect so many handling/driving characteristics of this car. it will also mislead you(and many mechanics) into replacing all sorts of things. ex. ball joints, rotors, steering rack bushings, the rack itself. check out that bushing.its the big one connecting the arm to the chassis. don't just start replacing "parts".
