Default Oil Gasket Leak and Alternator

So, a little while ago my alternator went out and my independent mechanic told me something was leaking on it but didn't have time to diagnose the leak. Said it might be from valve covers.

I took it to the dealer and they said I only have a lower oil pan gasket leak. I don't know where the low oil pan is at but it seems to me that this wouldn't be the culprit of the alternator going out. I've refilled my PS fluid and it's held steady so I'm not sure where it would be leaking at. There is dried oil on the right side of the engine, above the accessory belt and the pulleys. But, there is no leak on the left where the alternator would be...

From my search, it seems that a lot of people usually get leaks from the valve covers. So, I'm wondering what all of you think. Also, would it be difficult to replace the lower oil pan gasket myself? I know I need some sort of special silcone paste for it.
