Default Starter Solenoid part #

I have searched a few times and read many threads...
Simple question.
What is the part # for the starter solenoid for a 1998 GS400?

Magnet Starter Switch Assy 28150-50064 $193..48

Are you wanting a replacement starter or just the solenoid?
Most just replace the whole starter or like myself, replace the worn contacts in the solenoid.

...anyway you can access a parts list by clicking on the starter diagram

Thanks, i think...
I was thinking I was going to replace the relay?
Maybe I got the name wrong?
In the fuse box under the hood close to the battery.

Hmm... Maybe I should explain the issue before making a self diagnosis.
A few months ago everything was perfect with starting the car.
Recently, it has become difficult to start.
Turn the key and I will get one loud click.
Turn it a second time, same thing.
Turn it again it starts no problem.

Starter (when it goes) turns fast and strong...
Starter seems pretty good.
Other times the car starts perfect!?!?

Read the FSM and it seem that it could be my starter relay, however I still haven't checked continuity for the relay.
I keep on reading about people running out to replace their starters when its "possible" in my case anyways that its a $20 part.
Just looking for the part #, hpoing thats all it is...
Been kciking around the idea of a 06 GS430, if its the stgarter that may happen sooner rather than later. But I would like to try the relay because other than this issue I have owned this car for approx. 4 year without I single problem!

Thoughts?

Yes, test the starter relay that's straight forward, (just have someone touch the relay and see if it clicks). It is located next to the battery in box No. 1. Part number should be printed on the relay.

You can also test the starter by hot wiring it form the relay box.
Unfortunately early signs of starter failure (worn contacts) are intermittent, usually 1 out of 10 no starts, then it gets worse.

My arm chair diagnoses are worn contacts in the starter solenoid.
The copper contacts in the starter are normal wear items, for under $20. and 15minutes (once the starter is removed) they can be replaced.
Unfortunately it takes about 3 to 4 hours to R&R the starter.

This link will help in you diagnoses, http://www.lextreme.com/dx-starter.html

This link will take you through the whole proses of removal and rebuilding the starter in your 400. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-problems.html

Good luck and keep us posted

Did my starter but maybe 2 months ago, thought "contacts" would be the cheapest route. They were on order from the dealership and after spending 3 hours removing the manifold, Napa had a starter for 153 and I bought that . Do not want to do that again. Took my friend at his shop (including time to cool down, and part delivery) about 6 hours, maybe a little more. Took a solid 2 hours of none stop work to get it off and back on.
