Steering Column tilt function broken
Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I've been on here. I've since moved on from my GS300 and gave it to my mom, and bought myself an older 5-series BMW. The Lexus has been reliable, but it's time for some major maintenance to be due. I've got most of the parts for all the crap I gotta do to it (mainly some seals, timing belt etc, and a new mirror since some a-hole ripped mine off), as well as some minor paint and body work. But while I was checking the car out, I noticed the tilt function on the steering wheel no longer works. When you hit the button it just clicks as if the motor is seized or burned out. It had those signs (that horrible whining sound when it retracted) that it was about to go out, but I never did anything about it. Has anyone ever repaired it when it's gotten to this point? Should I buy a new column or is there like a motor replacement I could do? I should obviously regrease the column itself as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

When my column was making noise I packed grease into it which solved the problem. I would assume since your gs has been making that sound and nothing was done to solve the issue the motor may be burnt. However, some mechanics have a way of powering motors up with a direct current which would cause it to move. If the motor is seized that should solve the issue if not, a new motor may be in need.
