Default Help! My 98 GS400 is leaking oil!

I took my gs400 to the local firestone shop and one of the techs told me it's my oil pan seal and they got to put some sealer on the oil pan because who ever replaced the oil before didn't do a good job and bow they told me it's gonna cost about $300 just to fix it? Does anybody know where I can get it fixed pretty cheap somewhere around northern Cali?

So you need the oil pan gasket replaced, is that correct?

It could be leaking from a million places but most techs will tell you it's the oil pan.

Make sure that shop diagnosed the leak properly. It could be your OIL PRESSURE sending switch that is leaking. The part itself is under 20 bucks at your local AutoParts store. Its located right by the oil filter on the 1UZ-FE.

Good luck! !

the oil pan because who ever replaced the oil before didn't do a good job

That cant be true the only thing the last mecanic could have done is strip the bolt or the threads and that would leak from the drain bolt

i suggest you get another check from another mechanic. i have a shop up in nor cal and with the 2nd Gen GS, the oil pan gasket are easy to do but sometimes it can't be from the oil pan gasket. the techs from firestone clearly did not diagnose the car properly. they cannot just put some sealer on the oil pan. they have to replace the entire gasket and give you another oil change. also, the oil pan gasket should not be at that price.

Take pics of your motor and we can tell you where the oil is coming from.

The oil pans leaking are not as common as the valve cover gaskets leaking.
How many miles on the motor.

Check this one out....

When my father had an LS460... They diagnosed his brake problem and replaced his entire brake assembly... for free.
