Should I buy a GS300?
Hello everyone. I just registered and I am in search of some helpful suggestions about the GS 300.
I am in the market for a car and I am considering a 2000 GS300. I know the 400 is cooler, but I really want to stay in a certain budget.
What would be a good price on 2000 GS? I did some edmunds research, and they said the wholesale on a GS w/ about 30K miles is 21K and a dealer price would be 25K. Does this sound accurate to you? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
And last, but not least, I am looking to buy a GS in the New York City area before I go back to school in Pittsburgh next month.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Jim

Is this the price for a 2000 GS300 or 2000 GS400? If it is a GS400 then the price seems low. If you can find a 2000 GS400 at this price range and the car checks out to be excellent, then buy it.
I recommend a GS400 because it has power. GS300 is very under power compare to its class, I think. I bought my 2000 GS400 Platnum edition at $28500 in June, 2003 in Rockville Centre, NY.
Good luck with the search.

I believe the GS 300 is not under powered. For a daily driver the car moves along excellent and has an outstanding engine. I recommend the GS 300 because he said he was working on a budget and power isn’t everything.

Trust me the GS300 has enough power, I have driven both and decided to get the 300 myself. I did buy it new, but if I were to buy a used one at this point like urself I would wait, search all around, go all out and get a 400 w/navigation. Speaking on power, I have never been dissapointed with the 300 engine I love it.....

Thanks for all the replies.
What differences are their between the 2001 and 2000 GS?
The price I quoted in my orginal post was for a GS 300.
I am searching around the NYC area now. I checked out a few at Lexus of Manhattan, and the one Silver GS 300 they had wasnt' cleaned up and just came in.
Quick question, I have some rims on my 1994 Toyota Camry V6 SE. Would the fit on the GS?
I've been also looking at a 2002 Acura TL-S w/ Navigation. Not sure what to get. This model of car has a flawed transmission design, although it's warrantied for 7 years/100,000 miles.
Any help on these questions would be great
Thanks again.

What's New for 1999
The GS 300 was totally redesigned last year with improvements in performance
and a completely new look. As a result, the 1999 model goes unchanged except
for the addition of daytime running lights and standard floor mats.
What's New for 2000
The GS 300 gets a new BrakeAssist system and child seat-anchor brackets.
The GS 300 is certified as a low-emission vehicle. Crystal White and
Millennium Silver Metallic replace Diamond White Pearl and
Alpine Silver Metallic
What's New for 2001
GS 430 gets a new ULEV-certified, 4.3-liter V8 good for 300 horsepower and 325 ft-lbs. of torque, resulting in sub-6-second acceleration times to 60 mph. GS 300 has new E-shift buttons on the steering wheel for manual control of the automatic transmission's shift points. On the safety front, standard side curtain airbags debut on both models, and a new sensor detects if the front passenger seat is unoccupied, deactivating the front passenger airbag if nobody is sitting in that seat. Additionally, a new child seat-tether restraint has been added, along with impact-detecting door locks and an emergency trunk release handle that glows in the dark inside the cargo area. Exterior changes include water-repellent front door glass, a new grille with a bigger "L" badge, revised taillights, larger exhaust pipes with stainless-steel tips and new six-spoke alloy wheels. HID headlights are optional on GS 300 but standard on GS 430. Inside, steering wheel controls for the audio system come standard, a compass has been added and a new DVD-based navigation system is optional. Bummer that it's bundled with
trip computer, audio and climate control systems. Mark Levinson audio is newly
optional, replacing Nakamichi as the premium sound supplier. GS 300 gets more
wood trim inside the cabin, while GS 430 dashboards have new metallic-gray trim.
A wood and leather steering wheel is optional on the 430. Four new colors round
out this long list of updates for 2001.
You mentioned Lexus of Manhattan so I did a quick advanced search at autotrader within 200 miles of zip 10019. There are a few GS400s under $25K with as low as 32K miles. Then I searched between $25-$26K and found more selections with mileage in the low 20K. Pre-owned GS3 and GS4 prices are closer than you think, go test drive both.
I have a TL Type-S and received an extended warranty from Acura for its 5-speed A/T like you said. Type-S acceleration numbers are better than the GS300 but slower than GS4. GS uses better materials and better built quality. People are still posting bad A/T for the Type-S at Acura-TL Forum so I am not going to buy any new TL soon

The GS 300 is not underpowered. It is a full second quicker than the 1st gen. Unfortunately, some car makes insist on concentrating on 0-60 times and hp numbers and neglecting the rest of the car. No one was complaining when the 528 had "only" 189 hp. But it was well matched to the engine and there was good toque, like the GS. Nowadays, all u see on commercials are 0-60 this and that and 290hp this and that.
