Default Master Key question

I know there is a lot on the forum about keys etc.
But I haven't found if it is possible to buy the remote key electronics.

Not a whole key - just the 3 button remote thing inside the key.

I know I need to put it in a case, program, and cut the key.

What if I find an old key from another car - can I program the 3-button thing it to work in my car?

I only have one key to my car (master).
The case is broken and held together with tape (!)

I just received the 2 replacement cases I ordered and want to make two new master keys.

Do I need to bring my VIN to the dealer or can he copy the old key?

Sorry if I'm going over old stuff.

From what I know you can't get just electronics. I suggest getting a master key from sewell they are the cheapest. Or just get a valet, but once you loss the master key, you need to spend a pretty penny for a new setup.

While on the Key subject..... Is the only difference between the valet key and the master, is that the master has the keypad built into it? Or does it not open the trunk etc....

Reason i am asking is that i am going to put in an aftermarket alarm and hate the size of the master key, so i would rather have a normal key.

I dont think that it opens the trunk, Try it and see to confirm (@ valet). But if you are going with an aftermarket alarm/security system then why would it matter. They can program the remote to pop the trunk etc and you should be sure to have an extra remote...

Yup, that is what I did - bought a used key for like $45 on ebay, and just used its electronics in my new key blank.

Sure thing. You might want to throw in a new 1616 battery while you're at it, I got a pair for about $2 on ebay .
