Exclamation My CEL is on (& pics of my car)

So a couple of months ao i was drivin and my CEL came on, I took it out to Lexus the next day. They charged me $110 just to tell me my anitfreeze was low(they did fill it up). I was just about to turn into my house when the light turned back on. I was so pissed off that i drove it back(only like 7 miles from my house). When I came back, the guy asked if there was another problem, i told him that i was just drivin ghome and the light turned back on. He said one of their techs. will look at it. After about 2 hrs at the dealer, they finally came out and told me that i needed a new thermostat. I asked him how much would it cost, he said approx. $252. I told the guy at the desk that i wanted to talk to the tech. He wouldnt let me so i went off on his @ss. I was telling him why the tech. couldnt figure out all the problems with the car while i was there before instead of making me come back and making me wait approx 3 hrs total. He never really answered my question, instead he was trying to calm me down. I finally told them that i could change the thermostat myself for just about $30 max. I did changed the thermostat the next day on my own. The checked engine was still on after driving for about week. So i gave my cousin a call and he told me to change the MAF sensor. I took the car up to him and we cleaned both our MAF sensors(we have the same engines, he has a IS300). After i cleaned my MAF sensor, it went away and i was relieved. But then about 1000 miles ago, it turned back on. I hate driving the car right now when the CEL is on the dashboard. It just irritates me. So any of u guys have any advice for me?

BTW just some quick shots of my car since i havent posted any yet. I had chromes but took them off since they were peeling cause the owners before me apparently dont know how to take care of chrome rims. I tried to park the car into the garage before it would start raining.. But it didnt work out and still got wet. (sorry about the picture quality, just went outside to snap some pix for u guys)

Yeah, you'll need the code(s) to help.

Go to pep boys, Autozone, Meineke, or auto parts store and they should check the codes for free. Then post the codes you get back on here, and we can tell you what's actually wrong with the car.

And Mr. ****, Don't mock him because he hasnt heard about getting codes read. Stick to the ****.

Oh and did you check for any vacuum leeks? Same thing happened to mine the day after i got it then i saw that the vacuum line from the charcoal canister was disconnected. No CEL since!

Knowing about Codes is as 101 as how to remove your wheels, righty tighty lefty loosie. all you have to do is plug and Read. Sorry but no sympathy from me. to the OP, i would suggest taking it back to lexus and letting them fix it, or if you have a buddy with more knowledge, let him help u. Respectfully speaking..

ok now back to DL ****

Yes I would go to a local autozone or pep boys or one of them as suggested... Dont worry man, that is why the forum is here... For lex owners and enthusiasts alike to gain knowledge they need/want... Good luck...

alright..thanks for all the quick repsonses guys.

But today while driving down a straight road, i stopped at a red light and on green i kinda got on it since its been awhile. I know probably not a good idea with the CEL on but i couldnt resist with such a straight road. Bout an hour later after at a friends house, i started my car up and the CEL is gone. I drove around for about another hour and it never came back on. Should i still take the car to autozone etc. or should i just wait and see if it turns back on. It drives normal and i really dont see anything wrong with the car.

I dunno if its the same for Lexus but I know in previous cars Ive had that when the CEL comes on and you fix the problem that cause it, if you dont physically reset the CEL, it takes a few days for the computer to cycle and confirm the error has been fixed and it'll eventually shut itself off. This is def not a good habit. Youre best off getting the code read, fixing the issue then clearing the codes. But yeah...maybe thats why it turned itself off. GL!!

You so need a new mechanic. Thermostat shouldn't cost any more than $35, and fitting is a piece of ****, too.
