Default Oh Hai There!

Hi Guys,

I've been lurking on this site for the longest time because of my ever-continuing search for a clean GS here in Vancouver. I have found one finally! A graphite grey pearl sport design edition with black interior. The mileage is roughly 17xxxxkms. I'm getting the owner to fix it before I purchase it.

Right now, the problems are:
1) water pump leak
2) transmission seal leak
3) ciggy lighter busted
4) brakes
5) fluids

I'm also asking the following to be replaced:
1) bushings
2) front ball joints

Is there anything else I should think about replacing? I've read through the threads, DIY and searches - which showed the bushing and ball joints as the most prevalent problems in 2GS.

Thanks for reading.

BTW, I am coming from the Honda world. My daily driver is a supercharged 4dr civic and weekender is a 93 SC400.

Yeah I would pass too. especially on the tranny leak... and I do believe that the sport edition started in 01 or was it 02? Anyone???

Oh and You would want to do: timing belt, serpatine, pulleys, pcv, plugs (basic maintenance), vsv (the ones in the engine bay)... That's just for starters and to be truthful based on the rice you are getting this for, you have to ask yourself is it really worth it... Also, you have to weigh your options with the needs/wants as well... Mods cost money too...

so its at 172xxxkms or roughly 106xxx miles for $12900CDN (almost equal to USD). the current and original owner is replacing all that stuff at the dealer - i asked for a lexus insepction so i'm hoping it's pretty thorough.

what is VSV?

from my research, the sport designs came in 2001 to 03.

That's a little expensive if you ask me. Make sure to get the 90k service done while its there.

that still seems kinda expensive. The sport design is mainly aesthetically different.
if you want an idea of how much GS's are worth locally, i bought my 1998 gs400 over 2 yrs ago with 85k km for about $15K. there is also a white 1998 gs400 with 170k km available for under $10k on craigslist right now as well.

so a 03 GS300 would go for roughly 10K? there are 2 on CL. one has a broken water pump and the other one doesn't reply to my emails. other than the tranny seal and water pump, the car is in awesome condition.

civic puts out 170whp, the pulley broke so i had to downgrade and also have a crappy header which hurts.....decided to stop modding the civic and move onto something better.

i'd buy a US car if it wasnt more expensive, due to duties, taxes, registration, etc. a local guy i talked to imported a black on black GS3 for about 15K CDN.

just gotta see how the repair goes. its all on the owner and the lexus dealership now

I'm gonna assume the 2GS you're looking at is a 03 with 170k km. if it has all those problems that you have listed, the price is within a reasonable price range for a GS in vancouver. but i still suggest to shop around. a broken water pump and transmission seal leak arent exactly common problems of the car.

a DOHC boosted and u ONLY putting out 170? wow thats crappy...im assuming a b16a1 (arent they rated at 165 NA and oem?)
i build a SOHC d16z6 back in the day that was na putting out 167...i spent WAY to much $ on a SOHC making it make the power of a stock b16

it's an LS w/ a m45
i didnt really do it for the numbers, albeit they are sad, but more for the useable power band - especially in the city + passengers.
