Angry 2001 GS300 Passenger Front Window Erratic Operation

Hi Everyone,

The passenger front window in my 2001 GS300 has an intermittent problem. When it is operated by the driver side or the passenger side door switch it does not stop when the switch position is reversed. It then retracts fully and does not close when using either switch. After the ignition is turned off for a while and then turned on the switch closes the window. The problem goes away and then reappears.

Is the problem caused by a faulty Passenger Front Door MPX Multiplex Module EP 8922330020? If so, can the Driver Front Door MPX Multiplex Module ED be tried in the passenger door to test the passenger window operation?

Is there a way to reset the EP Module?

Could the problem be caused by some other window control part like the limit switch?

Thank you for helping.

When you say "reversed" do you mean when it's in auto mode and somebody hits the switch to halt it?
Does it work correctly if you don't click to engage the auto mode?

Hi Bykfixer,

Thank you for replying.

The windows besides the front passenger side operate normally when the driver master switch is operated. When the switch is activated, the window goes in the proper direction. If the switch is released shortly after activation the window stops. If the switch is held for 1-2 seconds and then released the window goes all the way up or down.

The passenger side window operation is not consistent or repeatable when the master switch or the door switch is used. The most extreme case is that the window does not stop when the switch is released and not held. The window goes all the way down and then does not go up when either the master or the door switch is used.

Is there a way to reset just the front passenger side controller?
What is auto mode? Is there a way to turn it off?

Auto mode is when the window rolls down (or up) by itself.

If you gentley push the button to roll the window down it goes until you let off the button.
If you push firmly on the button you should feel a slight click, thunk or pop as you have activated the auto feature. Not sure how to describe it but you should feel something like that.

The windows also have a safety feature when auto mode is engaged so if for example your dog riding in the car with the window down sticks it's head out and accidently activates the auto up feature, when the glass gets to Fido and encounters resistance it stops rolling up and instead rolls back down.

Some say try rolling the window back up and let go of the button then pull up on the button and hold it 10 seconds. In some vehicles that reboots the auto feature.

Hi Bykfixer,

I tried to reset the control module by holding the switch up for more than 10 seconds. Then tried to lower the window by pressing the switch and releasing it quickly. for the first press the window stopped after the switch was released. Then the window went all of the way down even if the switch was released and will not go up no matter how the switch is used.

I do hear the automode sound that you described (two clicks or soft "thunks") every time the switch is activated all of the way up or down and then released.

Do you think that the problem is caused by a faulty Passenger Front Door MPX Multiplex Module EP 8922330020? If so, can the Driver Front Door MPX Multiplex Module ED be tried in the passenger door to test the passenger window operation?

Could there be another reason that the window is will nor go up?

Thank you again.

It seems as though there are a number of multiplex units, none of which can be swapped.
Body 1, Body 2, then one for each of the doors.

I would not rule out a short. In other words check the wire harness connection at the door and look for frayed wires in the terminal block.
