Default Anyone tried the Remanufactured AC Compressors on Ebay?

I'm considering this due to the price difference with other AC compressors for the GS300........ Anyone had bad luck with remanned compressors? I do have an option of buying a used one with about 5o to 60k miles on it from an '02 for $250...... Which way should I swing?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=130361036891

This one is $269 with 1 yr warranty... the used one doesn't really have a warranty except on labor.

Thanks

(For '98 GS300)

The saying, you get what you pay for holds true for this compressor.. Theres a reason its only $269 versus $500 to $1000 for other remanned ones....

We put it in on Friday and it was blowing cool, but not cold..
Then a few hours later, it wasn't really even blowing cool... Took it back to the mechanic, put leak dectector dye in it and couldn't find a leak..

Its just not functioning right.. How do I explain this to the store when I go to return it? If they say, it's not leaking so its not our problem, what internal processes or parts can I complain about in the compressor that isn't generating cold air?

The mechanic said its not building or maintaining the pressures its suppose to.

Thanks for any help

A good/properly rebuilt or reman compressor is usually quite costly. Sorry I was busy over the weekend so I couldn't work on your car. I'm guessing that's the reason you took it to a mechanic. If that car is still here and you want to stop by today or tomorrow let me know. I still have the OEM Toyota compressor sitting here.

Yeah we shoulda waited for you but my mom was kind of in a rush and now the car ended up staying here anyway and she took my car.. I'd like to bring it to you to check out if you're free today... I'll give you a call in a little bit.

I'll update later when its finalized.... still working on finding out if its building enough pressure! Seemed to work ok earlier today, but this evening, it wasn't cooling as nicely... Not blaming the compressor yet, may be a leak somewhere else. JeffTsai is Da Man at these cars, so im sure we'll know shortly!

Update: I don't know if this would be the compressor or what, but on the freeway, it blows cooler than when driving around town. I think my servo's are going as well, would this cause the "Recirculation" button to not feel as cool as the "outside air" button? Either way, I think I'm going to get Jeff's used OEM compressor rather than keeping this remanned one in the car... BTW, the car has new condenser and drier.

In theory, what would it mean if I went to my car, revved to about 2500 rpm and it causes cooler air to come than at idle? weak compressor?

Ok just went outside and did that little test and yes, it blows cooler when the revs are high.. and doesn't blow cool at idle. What does that mean? I need to read up on how AC systems work.

Sounds like you are low on refrigerant...

what are the pressures, high and low side, at about 2000 rpm?

Also what is your static pressure?

Really good questions, wish I knew how to use the pressure gauge! I'll hopefully be getting it diagnosed/fixed with by a professional tomorrow (JeffTsai).

I'll recheck it again for you tomorrow. Worse case scenario that the compressor is just messed up. We'll see, just give me a call sometime tomorrow.
