Oil selection will need to concern 2 most important factors. Bearing clearance and temperature.
With stock bearing clearance then it is recommended to stay with factory recommendations. However, over time the bearing may see some wear and could benefit from thicker oil, like 5-30 to a 5-40.
The first number in the oil is the viscosity when the oil is cold. Generally, if your local climate drops to freezing then you will want to stay at a 5 weight.

Synthetics also have smaller molecules than conventional so they're better at getting into the tiny spaces of your engine and carrying away the dirt and sludge. I would run a high mileage oil like mobile 1 extended performance and don't buy into long duration oil changes.
