I don't know how to fix cars so I depend of forums. =D I have a 2000 Lexus GS300 and all the other doors lock except for the front passenger door. You have to manually click the switch on the door in order for it to lock. I think because of that, the door won't unlock with the button on the key, instead, it requires inserting the key and then unlocking by turning the key.

Help anyone?

I took the car to my co-worker's shop and he said he can hear a clicking that it could just be a clip that's not working or something. The actuator costs $400 for a brand new one. GOOD GRIEF! Help?

From what you are describing, you have a bad actuator(s). If the lock works mechanically (by using a key or interior lock switch, but not by pushing a button on a key fob), then it is the actuator.

The bad news is that Lexus does not sell just the actuator, or the actuator assembly. The sell the whole lock assembly, which is 90% what you don't need.

The good news is that if you are a bit mechanically inclined and are willing to put in a day's work, you can fix all for very cheap.

I purchased 4 motors from Ebay for $38 shipped (they are more expensive now than before, from what I read, but this is not too bad, compared to $280 for the lock assembly). Look for the

What you are looking for is Item:4-pk Lexus/Toy Door Actuator repl Mabuchi FC280PC-22125.

Make sure you order the motor without the brass coupling on the metal rod - you will have to take off the existing coupling from the bad motor(s). You might as well get some grease that is used for plastic parts (I didn't).

I replaced a bad motor in the front passenger door. After you read the thread for instructions on how to take off the door panel and lock assembly, look for my post in the end of the thread on testing the lock assembly (both mechanically and with a key fob) before you put it back in - it may save you some time and headache. Overall, a very doable job if you use your head and don't have $1000 to have it done by the dealer.

There is a ton on information on this forum on this issue since it is very common; almost inevitable over time.

This an easy DIY if you are just a little mechanically inclined. You can get actuators from eBay for about $100. You can get the motors that go in the actuator for about $20 for 4. The motor is what goes bad, not the whole actuator. If you replace the actuator it'll take about 30 minutes, If you replace the motor in the actuator, add another 20 minutes. Good luck.

I just removed my front passenger door lock as it was bad. Here were my steps for the DIY motor swap.

Step 1: Open the case. It cracked in multiple pieces. No big deal, I can epoxy back together.

Step 2: Finally got to the motor inside, great. I could easily see that the brushes were burnt.

Step 3: Remove the OEM gear mounted on the shaft. Small drill bit, small taps from a small 6oz hammer.

Step 4: The OEM gear shatters.

Step 5: I threw it all in the trash and ordered a new OEM door lock for $200.

Step 6: Cry and post my sorrows on here.

Geeze man that sucks but why would u tap on it with a bit and a hammer, it comes right out without a lot of force.. Oh well stuff happens

Sorry to hear that. A $10 gear puller from a hobby shop would have taken that fitting off. Or, you could have gotten an actuator from eBay for under a $100. Oh well, stuff happens!

In case anyone has a use for that old lock assembly that I have.

Free - pickup in Santa Ana CA.

-front bumper turn signal lights aka "clear corners". Good condition. Removed and put OEM amber ones in.

-front passenger door lock assembly. motor housing/case cracked apart when disassembling, but the cables and such are perfect.
