OP, now that i start thinking bout it im not 100% sure on the compatbility of the gen 5. i know the gen 3/gen 4 will replace but now that it rolls around my brain i dont recall bout the gen 5
joel my man, i may have one for you. so your using version 2.1? i THINK i have a version 5.1 i will give you, just cause your my buy. soon we need to talk bout that CF engine cover. oh yeah while im thinking bout it...i wanted to check with you first. you remember that front license tag you gave me? well we dont have front plates here and i was wondering if you wouldnt mind if i donated it to someone on this thread

yeah, pretty much. last update for you'll is the 2004. there is a thread on here botu some guy converting his 1998-2000 nav to a 2001+ nav but he spent like 1500 (granted this was like 4 years or longer ago) and i give him props for doing it but its not worth it $ wise, cheaper to install a non nav climate control and then a aftermarket H.U. with nav

yeah man my bad im new to this i just joined recently, but no i dont hear any noise thats exactly y i was thinking it had no power. and there is no disc in there. another thing that makes me think it has no power is because if it did and there was no disc it would tell me on the screen that its missing and it doesnt. but im just waiting on the new ecu to come in. so hopefully wen i hook it up everything works. i also just purchased the updated disc for my gen. also thanks for the part number i printed out the list so i can look around and see if i can find a cheap one.

Can you just buy an upgrade disc without having to replace the whole unit?? I'd like to just get the disc trying to remove the unit or whatever is way too much for me, lol. Anyone know where to get a good deal on a disc? How do I check the version I have now?

Just bought one for my 01 gs430 from 06 gs430 and it's totally different unit it's not plug and play different connectors 
learn to multi quote danny, its the + sigh next to quote, click on it by all the posts you wish to respond to and the last one just hit quote lol.
do you hear any noise coming from it on start up? i dont recall any lights on it but you should hear it....and stupid question but just in case have you tried to eject the old dvd? yeah the gen 4 is so much better and i was told the gen 5 is even nice but i never could source a gen 5
