Guys, I am not the only one who has heard this info before, there have been a few threads where people have talked about how they heard(from Lexus/Toyota execs) that the next gen 6 cyl GS would be the GS330. I'll post the links when I find them.

From what I understand, the engine will be in the old model GS for one more year (2003) and then be transplanted over to an all-new GS platform. Obviously, the 3.3L will produce a little more torque and hp, but no figures have been confirmed yet.

I don't mean to flame here, but I think at best this new engine config. will put out maybe 250hp at best, still keeping it in the middle of the pack. I don't think Lexus wants any real part of these hp wars, much to the dismay of alot of Lexus owners. So it may still end up slower than similarly sized vehicles, i.e. the G35, TL-S, Altima SE, Maxima, etc. I hate to admit that my competitive side shows (maybe it's a guy thing ) when I think that a Lexus GS300/330 luxury/sport sedan would get soundly beaten by less pricey yet similarly aimed market vehicles (well, not the Altima, as much as they'd like to think). Even though the GS3 is better made and more reliable, it would be nice if it were as fast, if not faster than most other cars. Just my .02.

I think Lexus is doing things just right here. Although we get a skewed perspective since almost everyone here is a driving enthusiast, the mass public doesn't care that much about performance. They'd rather have a safe, reliable, fuel-efficient car that costs less. So Lexus gives them that with the GS3, but they're also smart enough to offer a higher-performing variant with the GS4. For those willing to pay the price, you can get the performance. I know a lot of people here want an M5-killer, but I'm sure Lexus engineers and marketing folks have looked at that and decided (for the time being) that it doesn't make sense.
In my opinion, Lexus doesn't make the best-performing cars in a particular class, just the best OVERALL cars.
