Default What has been your SRT MPG experience on GS400?

Just checked MPG on our Gs400 and got 16.8 MPG in city only driving and driving a bit spirited. Testing next tank in city driving conservatively. Was curious what experience people are having with their SRT intake. If you drive it conservatively, does the SRT intake with R-ECU actually give better MPG?

Does anyone have a video clip of what it sounds like?

Your not going to get any noticeable MPG gains with an intake system. Don't all intakes sounds the same?? . Its just the sound of air being sucked into a big tube.

and also with intakes, you decrease low end torque which could help or suffer your mpg depending on what type of drives you do city/hwy. to me when i had a intake and i do 90% city stop & go driving the car felt slower, i catch myself pressing on the pedal more to give it the same go if i was to gently tap on the gas with my oem intake now. this is on a gs300 im talking about btw not the 4/430..

The reason you are seeing better mpg with the srt intake is because the ecu leans up the air fuel mixture just like you would do with a air fuel controller to get better hp. All the ecu is is a pre defined air fuel mixture. If you lean up the a/f mixture you use less fuel.

I've read where the SRT intake and ECU on others vehicles is good for 1 or 2 more MPG if you do not change your driving habits once the intake is installed. Just wondering if that really was the case or not.

clean your throttle body and intake and it will improve your mileage drastically

Any special precautions in cleaning the mass airflow sensor? I think some manufacturers have a wire with a spacial coating that is easily damaged. I've seen special cleaner for the MAS but not sure if safe to use on all types.

I normally use CRC Mass air flow cleaner. Just spray it in the MAF gently and it'll sell evaporate. No need to rinse or anything.

Checked MPG again. With all city granny driving got 17MPG. Not much better than the 16.8 which had a bit of spirited driving. Will run some mass airflow cleaner through it this weekend. It probably has not been cleaned in 75k miles.

Put in SRT intake kit today. It sounds AWSOME!!! Does seem quicker. Broke traction without being in power mode which was unexpected. Possibly just the road condition at the time but seems a bit snappier. Manual says it takes 250 miles until you get full performance benefit. Car is still quiet with gentle acceleration. But when you got to WOT it sounds vicious. Curious how it will impact MPG.

Tricked out looking BMW coupe got smoked yesterday. Looked liked a 5 series. I don't know exact model as he was never able to get out of my rear view mirror. Later when he pulled next to me again he stopped about 1/2 car length behind as too embarrassed to get side by side. Think most people don't realize how quick the GS400 is because stock they look so sedate. I can see how MPG can go down easily as you are more tempted to stomp on it just because it sounds like a beast trying to jump out from under the hood at WOT. Need discipline to go through a tank without stomping on it too much to check MPG potential.

While the intake is quiet on gentle acceleration, if a person has a bit of a heavy foot and normally uses moderate to heavy acceleration in their normal day to day driving, it may be too much noise for them. But for me it works out just right as I normally accelerate pretty mellow most of the time.
